When can I apply for a work permit after submitting my refugee claim?

I just submitted my refugee claim last month and will attend the first interview next week. When can I apply for a work permit? Can I apply for a work permit now?

In Refugee Application, there is a question "Do you want to apply for the work permit?". Did you answer it Yes? Your OWP will be issued soon. You'll receive the WP in your mail.

I made a refugee claim at the border (I had family members in Canada). I received Brown paper at the border. I have submitted my portal on 28 Jan 2025 and opted "Yes" for Work permit. My medical has been received by IRCC on 06 Feb 2025 but I haven't received my work permit.

I had my job interview and waiting for my work permit.

Is there any way to follow-up with IRCC?

In your first interview they will give you , your open work permit

I had my job interview and waiting for my work permit. Surprised you could get an interview without a valid WP since most employers would be unwilling to do an interview without confirmation that you are legally able to work.

Is there any way to follow-up with IRCC?

The process takes time you only claimed asylum less than 2 months ago.
