When a refugee can leave canada?

Dear Friend,

I know that the refugee laws in Canada are changed in December,2012.So by new regulation, If someone claims hisself/Herself as a refugee and he/she apply it in Canada (Ontario), how long does it take to be concluded?I think as long as the application is processed, applicant can not leave the country.So when a applicant can leave the country freely?How long does it take to be concluded the application?Thanks.

Every case is unique therefore its hard to say how long its going to take to process refugee claimants. You cannot leave Canada while your refugee application is under process.

Thank you very much for fast response.So is there average process time?I mean it might be 6 months or 6 years.So if we look past applications, is there a average time?I mean if we think everything is suitable to be a refugee..

According to the CIC web site, it's 11 months for stage 1 and 10 months for stage 2. So you're looking at around 2 years in total.
