Dear All,

I and my wife are going to land in Toronto in a few weeks and at the moment I am looking for a place for short term accommodation in Toronto. I checked the Craigslist and came across a few cases. For example this one: http://toronto.craigslist.ca/tor/apa/4746527520.html

It is 1 bed + den Condo Downtown Toronto for $580 / month. I had heard from several friends who are living in Toronto that apartments in Toronto Downtown is far more expensive than this price. Now I doubt if such cases are real or scam (for rip off or something). Or are these apartment even available for new immigrants? I am sorry but I don't have a lot info about renting room in Canada and I would be grateful if you can shed some light on such cases. I am really confused now.

Thanks in advance for your time.

It's way way way underpriced. Looks like a scam to me.

I totally agree with you. But strange thing is that there are a lot more similar cases in CL. Are those all scam? Just one guess, because I am not familiar with CL canada: Are those rental fees in craigslist per month or they are per week?

It's a scam. Click on the link you posted earlier - it's gone now. This means it was a scam and was removed by the web site when someone reported it. Assume the other similar posts you see are scams as well. Unfortunately craigslist is full of them...

OMG. You're right. It is removed. Is Kijiji same as CL? Then how can we trust on them to find a room?

Kijiji isn't much different. You have to be careful there too.

I would not recommend renting a place before you get here. Too many scams. Plus you need to see what part of the city you want to live in. Come to Canada and live in temporary accommodations when you first get here. Once you're here in person, that will be the right time to start looking for a more permanent place to live.

100% agreed.. when I came to canada I was told centennial college is apposit the house, I am gonna rent... so easy, no need of pass, blah blah...
Reality is the place was 5 km away from the college... so never trust untill u see...

Kijiji is Canadian focus. You'd still have to be careful either way. But generally Canadians use Kijiji rather than CL
