What's up with employers not wanting to hire anyone through sponsorship

Hi,

I know the title of my post might sound dumb and obvious. I've been staying in Canada from 2018 to today (from PVT, failed work permit attempt, to study permit to now), and I'm REALLY struggling to find an employer willing to hire a foreign worker (french in my case) through sponsorship.

In my experience, yeah I understand not most of employers would be willing to go through a tedious process like work visa sponsorship just to bring a new employee at their company. But I've been sending hundreds and hundred (litterally, I'm not kidding) over the last two months, either no one answers me or I'm being told that the employer/company would rather hire someone LEGALLY ABLE to work on the spot than sponsorising anyone, even with a strong resume and background.

I've went through ALL of the designated employers list for the Atlantic Canada immigration program for example, and wandering on Job Banks when I can't find anything. I'm able to work in customer service, restauration, hotels, anything to do with customer service or requiring physical strong force.

Asides from ranting my frustration here, I'd like to hear you guys experiences/stories and see if I'm not the only one/or if I'm doing anything wrong??Especially if you have any useful/helpful ressources on where to find employers that would be willing to hire and sponsor someone on the spot?

Is requesting a work sponsorship a joke? I understand this might be too much to ask for for most employees, but there might be AT LEAST some company looking to recruit foreign workers here in Canada?

as an employer, I don't want the hassle. When I want to hire for an opportunity, I want to hire now, not 4 or 5 months from now. Unless you have very specific skills that I can't find anywhere else, I'm not going to put in the effort to hire what is, essentially, a temporary worker.

Fwiw, Atlantic employers get spammed with thousands of applications as they are overwhlemed and most of the jobs in jobbank are scam.

A lot of employers hire foreign workers and even support them through LMIAs. The problem is that if there are other replacements in the job market, LMIA would never be a natural fit and would be an excessive thing for an employer to do.

"strong resume" doesn't mean much if the employer has thousands of other candidates as options. I myself had 3 LMIA supported job offers without ever applying to those jobs - so there's a demand for certain type of occupations/employees, you may/may not be applying(or be good fit) for LMIA supported job offers.

Exactly! If someone can hire a person and get them onboard within 2 weeks, proving that they need sponsorship for someone and spending months getting approved for LMIA isn't worth it.

The type of jobs you are looking for can be done by than most 1 million international students or other million plus who arrived over the past few years. There is no need to go through the process of LMIA for service industry jobs. If you have specialized skills that are in demand then you would have better luck. In terms of immigration to Atlantic Canada unless in desperate need for certain skills most employer don’t want to go through the time and expense especially since many will leave as soon as they get PR.

It's a long post. But you haven't mentioned what special skill/experience/education that make you special to be hired as a foreign worker by Canadian employers.
Typically, you need to have skillset that they cannot find anyone local and already can work (either already on an Open work permit, PR or Canadian) for them.

It's not "you are doing the application wrong". It's just that you may have not that special skill for employers to go through the tedious process.

Look at it this way . There’s a huge domestic pool of people employers can pick from when they hire . Why would they want to jump thru all the hoops , $$$, time involved to hire a foreigner that needs sponsorship? The fee is $1000 for the LMIA, plus all the time , paperwork that’s involved. It’s $1000 an employer saves if they hire someone already authorized. Canada is not unique. Most countries are the same . They’ll favour people authorized to work over those that need sponsorship.

I can still try to apply through 2D animations/games industries since my art skills are much more fitting if an employer seek to hire for these qualities, but nothing else.

Industries like meat processing (food processing in general but especially proteins) tend to hire people from abroad because it is difficult work which can lead to injury especially because of the knives and most Canadians can’t stomach seeing how food gets to their table. Some of the work is also seasonal like some seafood processing.

No all of Canada. Most of Canada doesn’t want to know what goes on at a slaughterhouse or a factory farm. The majority of Canada does not butcher their own food. They may be able to clean out a fish but most Canadians could not deal with slaughtering and butchering their own meat or watching it be done. A very large percentage of slaughterhouse employees across North America are newcomers or WP holders plus some undocumented workers.

Most of these programs are through an agriculture foreign worker program and most come through a few specific countries like Mexico and Jamaica. This would be seasonal work with no way to remain longterm so unless otherwise specified would assume they are not looking for 6-8 months of work per year and having to return home during the rest of the time.
