Hi all,
Since I'll be moving to Toronto for settlement under EE scheme, could you kindly share your experience in the first few weeks or months after landing? Besides the basic preparation like applying for SIN, opening bank account, getting a phone plan...what else should I pay attention to?
Some told me that I should not be rushing to the job search but rather try to enjoy and adapt to the new life before hitting on the search. Please share your job search experience too... thank you in advance.

1) Find a place to live unless you have arranged it before landing
2) If applicable, set up Internet, cable and hydro accounts
3) if applicable, exchange/get a driver license
4) if applicable, get a car

OHIP. You will still have the 3 months mandatory wait for coverage after arrival but you can apply as soon as you like.

Scout around to find a family Dr. Tell them you’re waiting out your three month eligibility, see if they can at least put you on the patient list when you do get coverage. You don’t want to be in Walk in clinic purgatory

Don't be surprised if you can't find a family doctor. Depending on your location, it might be almost impossible to even get on a waiting list.

That’s true , one trick I found was go to a walk in clinic and ask are any of the Drs there accepting assigned patients versus walk ins . Then they’ll be assigned to their Doctors network , it takes leg work ,patience, and luck, and you can’t be picky

Yeah i went into a walk in until unfortunately my gf father passed away. Only then I got a space

We got lucky... We know people in the "industry" and got taken on via personal recommendation but only after many months of "walk in clinics".

I have applied for the OHIP, however the card would arrive only in Sep first week (as communicated by rep there). Do I need to search for a family Dr.? Can you please enlighten this one as I am totally new here.
