What to do if application fails?

I am SO NERVOUS that my application will be rejected! I have no idea what we will do if it does. How often do they get rejected? Is is a small percentage that actually makes it? I'm really frightened they wont approve me for sponsorship, as I am only 25 and don't make a great deal of money.. We don't have any kids between us though, and they don't often use income as a reason for rejection do they?

My spouse is from New Zealand, and I'm so afraid that if it gets rejected we will have to break up. I want to marry my man
Just feeling melancholy today I suppose! Anybody have some great success stories to boost my confidence in my application?

don't worry about it! my partner is 24, living outside of Canada, and a student ( no income in the last 3 years apart from 5 months odd summer jobs) and he has been approved to sponsor me.... If you have no children, there is no income requirement. So if you have proven that you will return to Canada, and if you have no criminal background, you will be approved. They won't reject your sponsorship without asking for more proofs, so if they are not convinced that you will return to Canada, they will ask and give you a chance. But you should be fine!

The second part is proving that you are in a real relationship - there again, if you have sent all proofs that you live together, are a couple etc, you will be fine. Your VO is Sydney, and that's lucky! most people report that they are really fast, nice, and they send an AOR when they get your file, they answer queries etc - definitely a good VO to go through. So - chin up, you'll be approved!

Gosh I'm so nervous, but your post really helped. I feel a lot more confident! It's just a scary feeling knowing our fate is in the hands of one or two people... I have a good feeling about it, I just feel like I'm in limbo! We can't really set up our life until he gets PR. Hard to juggle living in two countries! Haha

That's so good to know about Sydney! I feel even better about them now I hope our application goes quickly, I want my life to begin finally! It's been a few years of this unknown future

I know what you mean dawndarkharp... it feels like we have been planning for ages, then we finally have all the information and send the application, and the real waiting begins! My body is in Australia still but my heart and mind are in Canada, and there's still the better half of a year to go!
A lot of the time during breaks at work I am rechecking the forum to see any updates.... I wonder if this will be the case for the next 8-10 months! haha


At least we know it will be worth it in the end!

Glad I could help! and yes - it's a lot of waiting, but it will happen eventually.

Also - if your partner is from a visa-exempt country, you can always move before he gets the PR - it's a way of feeling a little more "in control" of the timing...

I would recommend waiting for the sponsorship approval ( and for that, you can calculate more or less the timing, as it is pretty standard, it doesn't depend too much on your application), and then move if you feel like it... that's what I'm doing! so at least I don't have to wait too much to plan for things.

My partner has been approved to sponsor me, and we are moving to Canada in October, regardless of the PR... so we can pack, start looking for jobs( for him because of course without a PR not possible for me), and find a place etc. I will take advantage of the time I'm waiting for my PR to get familiar with the country, new surroundings etc. I will go as a tourist, and once I get the PR - I'll exit and enter again, and "land" as a PR - but at least I have some control for when I move etc... and it will be nice to get settled, find a place to stay, and once I have my PR, I can start looking for a job...

For me it was a way to feel a little less "in limbo"... and it's also nice to be looking forward to going to Canada instead of being stuck in the waiting process - for me the process has been difficult because it felt like so many obstacles, it was taking away the excitement of actually going here!

I plan to do the same thing.. I'm sponsoring my hubby and his application is now at VO office which Can be as long as 16 months but I'll be moving very soon a dn he will follow in a few months time once I get sorted and just wait out the duration with me in Canada. We are from visa exempt country as well.

Dont worry you will be fine.
they approve the majority of applications.
the main reasons for refusal are criminalities, illegal marriages, health concerns,
the approval rates are quite high actually, because most people are in real relationships and the VO can see this when they look at your application.
like the other people said, if they have any doubts they give you opportunities to prove them wrong. through extra documents or interviews.


and dont worry about the age.
i am canadian and im 22, my common-law is mexican and hes 26, i am a full time student and i work part time. and my spouse is also a part time student and works full time.
so he pretty much supports me!.

age is not a concern, neither is income.
your just worrying.. like the rest of us do. but everything will turn out fine and ya you are lucky! sydney is alot faster than most VO's

Even if you have children, there is still NO income requirement (unless being sponsored as a dependent). We have a son together (he is a Canadian citizen), but there is nothing required for us to prove we have a certain amount of income. I was approved as my wife's sponsor without question.

The second stage is mostly for the applicant, but the VO will likely check the sponsor again to make sure he/she is still eligible to sponsor, including checks on intent to return to Canada, if applicable.
