Have your photograph taken with a known professional photographers or photo studio, they know what to do. For your peace of mind, just show print out copy of the required measurement, position, etc. as per CIC. You can get it from the Instruction guide (EG7).

according to this page..

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/photospecs.asp

Crown means the top of the head or (if obscured by hair or a head covering) where the top of the head or skull would be if it could be seen

According to the guide itself (EG7)

The photos must:
 measure between 25 mm and 30 mm (1‖ and 1 1/5‖) from chin to crown; (not 31mm to 36mm as in your link)
 have a 35 mm x 45 mm (1 3/8‖ x 1 3/4‖) finished size.

Why not make your hair as normal and formal as it can be (not spiking for just one time 8) )? For Canadian dream sake and for you own peace of mind. Then have your photo taken again if you're not confident with your present photos. ;D

Honestly, I did not measure it after I got my photos. I just went to a professional photo studio and told them that I need a photo for Canada Visa. I also show them the printout of the required dimension but they did not get it from me, they know about it already. I submitted it with confidence it is correct and it was in my opinion.

As I know crown means at the top of the head or where the top of the head or skull would be if it could be seen (if obscured by hair).

Crown means the top of the head, or (if obscured by hair or a head covering), where the top of the head or skull would be if it could be seen.

Frame Height: 45 mm
Frame Width 35 mm
Max. Face Height 36 mm
Min. Face Height 31 mm

The photos must show the full front view of the head, with the face in the middle of the photo, and include the top of the shoulders. The size of the head, from chin to crown, must be between 31 mm (1 1/4") and 36 mm (1 7/16").
