SO, i applied in march and got med request on sept. 6th. On my ecas, it says "we started processing your application on september 5th"
What exactly is "processing"? Does that mean that until september 5th, my application was literally just sitting there?

Generally it means someone is actually evaluating your application. It's not the first time someone has looked at your application - it's no doubt been filed and cataloged and scanned and entered into GCMS - but it is the first time someone has looked at the specifics of your application. We know CIC "looks" at the application up front in order to confirm that you've sent in a complete application, but they don't seem to consider that to be "processing".

It's also the point at which you cannot get a refund on the application fee. :D

So if mine went into processing on the 5th, and i got medicals requested on the 6th, would that imply that the VO was satisfied with at least the eligibility component? Or that he is simultaneously requesting medicals and will evaluate at the same time? Tough question, I know.

Yes, a medicals request means you have a positive selection decision ("SELDEC") based upon your application. This is generally the point they ask for medicals, order your CSIS background check, ask you for the RPRF if you haven't already paid it, and an updated PCC if your current one has expired.

Once all of those things are back, they will review again and assuming your medical assessment is M1, M2, or M3, your CSIS background check is satisfactory, the RPRF has been paid and your PCC is current they will issue a PPR.

Hi
And how long does it take from the time when it says "we are processing..." to the passport request?
Thank you

There's no hard and fast rule, but usually it's 3-4 months.
