What should I say is my Reason for Extending my Visitor's Visa

Hi everyone

I have been in Canada for the past 4 months on a Visitor's Visa, staying with my girlfriend of 2 years. When I originally applied for my Visitor's Visa, the reason I put was that I wanted to visit Canada to see whether it was a good country to settle down in.

Me and my girlfriend are intending to live together for 12 months so that we can get Common Law Status, after which she will be able to sponsor me as her spouse to stay in Canada on a permanent basis. However, before she can start her sponsorship application, I will need to extend my Visitor's Visa for 6 more months.

I have two questions:

1. Would it be best to put the reason for extending my visa as 'Trying to gain Common Law Status' or 'Further Exploring the Relationship'?

The reason I ask is because one of the main things that immigration officials look at is whether the person intends to leave the country at the end of the extension or not. I will be submitting my air plane ticket with this application to help prove that I am intending on going home (at least temporarily).

2. When you apply for a Visitor's Visa Extension, how long do they usually give you? Is it likely that I would be able to get a 6 month extension on a Visitor's Visa?

I will have enough money to fund my trip, as well as proof from my girlfriend that show she will be providing a place to stay.

1. Say that you are working on becoming common law so that your girlfriend can then sponsor you for PR.
2. You should have no issues getting another six months.
