i just applied to sponser my 2 sisters and mother. i would like to know if my applications will go to fast track since they are from Iraq and the situation is really bad there. My question, how can I check if my applications went to fast track or not? Is there any phone number/online to call to check the status o. Second question, I did not attach my family story + pictures which show their home was destroyed because of the civil war there. Can I send them now after I already applied? Thanks

I suspect if you applied Refugee status, that's one thing. If you applied for regular sponsorship, good luck. I don't think your sisters even qualify for that sponsorship.

The next step is to WAIT. Just WAIT.

Frak. No wonder so many of us are waiting so long for CIC when loopholes like this get opened up.

Not at all. Just looking for just treatment for everyone.

Why do Iraqis get special treatment? What about the Afghans? or the Kenyans? They have similar challenges -- in fact, many other countries are still operating under oppressive regimes. Why should anyone from Iraq (which, by the way, has been "freed," according to Western beliefs) get special treatment?

Furthermore, why should the *extended* family class EVER get preference over spouses and dependants?

No doctorkb you are wrong. Iraq is very bad place to be in right now and unfortunately will stay like that (politics, let’s not go there now). It is very unsafe place and basically is like hell. I went last April there, and during my 5-days visit, 6 bombs had fallen near my family house (it is still war zone and everyone can see that). My family house was hit by a rocket last March. There is no electricity, no water, and no security/safety. The country is totally mess and destroyed (lost its entire infrastructure). It was in the news 2-3 weeks ago, the temperature there reached 140 Fahrenheit (60 Celsius) (this because of all kind of bombs has been used which destroyed the green area/trees (everything burned), 2 main rivers are dried now), I am not exaggerating, no green area in Baghdad!!! What you hear/see in the TV are just lies to brain wash people and to justify this evil war. It is very depressing to see my homeless people/disable people who are the causality this evil war, many people are having cancer because the air is toxic now thanks to all kind of bombs that are used in the war and many new baby are born with unknown diseases/disabilities or die because of the deformed depleted uranium that is used in these bombs. Do you want to hear more, there is a lot more!! Just go and visit the place and you will know the real truth by yourself.

Without getting into the ethical issues (such as, if everyone should get the same treatment, why don't countries like the U.S. or Canada just send aid to all other countries equally....so Saudi Arabia will get the same amount of food as Somalia, under the equal treatment policy), here's why this likely isn't delaying your application:

True, they get a one-week turnaround for sponsorship at Mississauga versus one month on average for everyone else, but is this really an unjustifiably large discrepancy, especially considering this is the fast part of the whole process for anybody?

Secondly, I believe that the Damascus visa office is under this jurisdiction, and that office is backlogged at best right now (is it even open?) with the current political climate in Syria.

And anyway, these applicants must meet security and medical requirements just like people not from Iraq have to, so there is no special treatment in that sense.

Thanks a lot for your help. I really appreciate it. I have a question now, I have a prove that my family have been living with life threatening conditions. Unfortunately I did not attach these documents with my application. Should I do that now? or Can I do that? Not sure if I can do that, I have not heard anything from CIC after submitting my applications 10 days ago. Thanks a lot once again.

I believe that you can add more photos and documents later on but it is best for you to wait for first step to be done (sponsorship approval).
After that when your file is transferred to visa office in charge for your application your family members will get their Client ID numbers.
Then you'll will be able to send all photos and files needed to VO. You just quote Client ID number or numbers in your letter so people in VO can add them to file/s.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Since we're not talking about the OP sponsoring his spouse, but instead, his extended family, we're talking about sponsorship proceedings taking (as you say, 1 week) instead of **40 MONTHS**.

That seems like a pretty big discrepancy to me.

First of all, let me just say that I find the processing time for the Parents & Grandparents and Dependent Children categories of Family Class sponsorship atrocious. As long as Spouses & Partners can take to process, who made the decision that it was more important to reunite newlyweds than children with their grandparents or parents? In fact it embarasses and shames me that my PR can go through so comparatively quickly, when I go on Trackit and see a spreadsheet that has the column for processing time in quadruple digits for these cases.

I didn't realize that it's not just the PR part that takes forever for these categories, but the sponsorship from Mississauga too. But you know what? I still say good for those people who had to endure hardships in Iraq. And I feel the need to point out - just because the media has proclaimed a conflict over (I don't think they ever said the country was "freed" though), does not mean that life has instantaneously reverted to rainbows and lollipops for the populace. The media and the public attention just moves on to something else, same as it did with the U.S. Gulf Coast and with Haiti, but do you think people stopped suffering there? Anyway, the fact is, Iraqis are not in the same position as those who can at least wait in relative safety and leisure for their chance to join their families in Canada. At least they're making it easier on someone. I wish they would make it easier for a whole lot of other people too.

Anyway, I hope you don't take this response the wrong way, just felt the need to share my feelings on the issue ;)
