Hello Everyone,

so if the course is 6 months, I understand that a study permit is not necessary. What will be issued instead? The applicant is from afghanistan and wants to complete a 6 months-course at a Canadian college. Will he get a visitor's visa instead? Would he have better chances to be approved by the VO if it was a study permit or does it not make any difference?

1. If the course is less than 6 months, then he applies for a TRV (visitor visa) but CIC has stated in the past, that although the course is for 6 months or less, if the person has an intention to study further, they should apply for a study permit.

Thank you PMM. So does he have to specify for which kind of visa he is applying or is the VO the one who will decide?

BUT if you apply for student visa it is better because if you think to continue your studies then it will be extend few more years . otherwise Visiting visa will not change into student visa , you will have to come back to your home country and again apply on student visa status.. now its up to you that what your future plan is !!

Thank you for your information,I didn't know that, thanks!
Do you think they will give study permit if course is only 6 months? Does it have to be explained in a seperate letter, why he applies for study permit?
