1. No, IRCC only accepts TEF for French Language Tests.
2. To apply to Quebec as a skilled worker, they will accept the following tests:

Evaluation of French knowledge

The following tests and diplomas are recognized by the Ministère:

the Test d’évaluation du français adapté pour le Québec (TEFAQ) of the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de Paris Île-de-France (CCIP-IDF);
the Test de connaissance du français pour le Québec (TCF-Québec) of the Centre international d’études pédagogiques (CIEP);
the Test d’évaluation du français (TEF) of the CCIP-IDF;
the Test d’évaluation du français pour le Canada (TEF Canada) of the CCIP-IDF;
the Test de connaissance du français (TCF) of the CIEP;
the Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF) of the CIEP;
the Diplôme approfondi de langue française (DALF) of the CIEP.

Hey buddy,

I'm preparing for TEF right now. At present I'm at the A-1 level of DELF but hopefully will continue and prepare well for TEF in the coming months. You see, I'm at 446 and chances of increasing my CRS are not many so...

My question to you - do you have any idea as to what level of preparation I should minimally be at to score some decent points in TEF? Like whether I should appear in TEF after clearing the A-2 level or B-1 or even more? Silly question but that's how my life is right now.... Thanks for your reply !

Hi. I am french and did the TEF.

It is hard, even for a french native speaker, but not impossible if you really work hard and it seems that you do. I did not train and got CLB 10 but not the highest marks for everything.

I looked at DELF on this website:

http://delf-dalf.ambafrance-ca.org/en/get-preparedtrained/sample-delf-dalf-subjects-4-ranges

Based on that website I would say that if you can beat B1, you will do a good score at TEF. I would try to go as high. A2 is still a little bit too easy but beating is should give you a reasonable score.

Bonne chance !

Encore, merci!

The TEF is offered worldwide, like the IELTS or TOEFL in English. You might want to check the Alliance Francaise website in India or get in touch with them to see if they offer it. They should.

The even tougher part of the TEF is that (it seems) they expect you to know stuff that people outside France are unlikely to be familiar with. One of the questions in the TEF prep book is: "Vous avez lu l'affirmation suivante dans un article de journal: Il est mauvais pour les enfants de lire des bandes dessinées." You need to argue against this statement.
How would anyone know what "bandes desinées" are if they're not French/Belgian? A question like that could completely screw up your score even if your French is decent, just because you don't know what it's referring to!

I did not have any questions that needed someone to be familiar with french culture neither my french who just passed it. I hope that it will never happen again or that at least the examiner will be kind enough to explain what is a "bande dessinée".

But I agree with you that it's like the test is not thought to be done by a non native french speaker.

I really find TEF ridiculous.

Can someone clarify how the points we get from TEF are determined? For reading, for instance, there are 50 questions, each worth 3 points, which means a total of 150 points. But the CIC website says the highest score for reading is 277. For listening there are 60 questions, so the highest possible score is 180. But the CIC website says the highest is 333. Where do the extra points come from? This is very confusing!
