What is the allowed duration of stay on visitor visa

My mother got her multiple entry visitor visa to Canada on 2-Aug-2013 with expiry date of 1-feb-2014.
She entered Canada on 15-Oct-2013.
On her passport, the immigration officer has put up an entry stamp dated 15-Oct-2013 and there is no information about the date by which she should leave Canada.
She could not completely understand about what the officer told her.
In this case what would be the date by which she should leave Canada ( 6 months from Data of entry or the expiry date on the visa i.e. 1-feb-2014)
Please advise if there is any way to confirm this?

As no document was issued and no date entered under the stamp, she was given 6 months from 15/Oct/13 .

my mother enrered canada on 8th of this month with just that Entered Stamp. She has multiple Canada visa until march 2014. If i take her to US and come back in march will CBSA give another 6 months? Or should i just apply for extenshion? I wanted her to stay with us about a year. thanks.

its the expiration date of the visa your mother should stick to not the stamp in the passport..

She can enter Canada multiple times until march 2014 but her stay in Canada will only be 6 months from initial entry. Exiting to the US border won't reset that, try flying to mexico.
