Hi,

My expereience spans 5+ years in "Computer & Information Systems", of which, 2+ years has been as "Project Manager, computer & telecommunication software", if I match the The occupation description. As per NOC:

"A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, business administration, commerce or engineering is usually required.

Several years of experience in systems analysis, data administration, software engineering, network design or computer programming, including supervisory experience, are required."

Questions are:

1. What does "several" imply ?? Is 5 Years expereince sufficient ?
2. What is sufficient evidence of Proof of Work
3. If it is a letter of experience,Who will provide the reference letter for me? My supervisor, or HR ??
4. My business card specifies "Senior Specialist", which is equivalent to "Assistant Manager", do I qualify if I satisfy the condition of work experience for 2+ years of managerial exposure.

Are the applications in Category 1 to be sent directly to Sydney, Nova (Canada) or to local office in your country of origin ??

Kindly help

Its specifically for:

0213 Computer and Information Systems Managers

Queries are:

1. What does "several" imply ?? Is 5 Years expereince sufficient ?
2. What is sufficient evidence of Proof of Work
3. If it is a letter of experience,Who will provide the reference letter for me? My supervisor, or HR ??
4. My business card specifies "Senior Specialist", which is equivalent to "Assistant Manager", do I qualify if I satisfy the condition of work experience, performing essential and main dutiesfor 2+ years of managerial exposure.

Kindly confirm if applications in Category 1 to be sent directly to Sydney, Nova (Canada) or to local office in your country of origin ??

Since CIC only cares about your past 10 years, yes, one would assume 5 years experience in that role is sufficient.

2. What is sufficient evidence of Proof of Work

A letter from your employee, pay slips, contract, performance reviews...

3. If it is a letter of experience,Who will provide the reference letter for me? My supervisor, or HR ??

Looks more formal if it comes from HR. Make sure it comes in letterhead paper. One little trick: in Canada, a manager is hierarchically superior to a supervisor. So if you are claiming to be a manager, then your boss should not be a supervisor (this is just a matter of wording).

4. My business card specifies "Senior Specialist", which is equivalent to "Assistant Manager", do I qualify if I satisfy the condition of work experience, performing essential and main dutiesfor 2+ years of managerial exposure.

The title is not too important, of course if you can have the company say you were "assistant manager", it sounds better. But you must prove that you have carried out the main duties, and that your job fits the "lead description" in the NOC (lead description = the first paragraph on the NOC)

Kindly confirm if applications in Category 1 to be sent directly to Sydney, Nova (Canada) or to local office in your country of origin ??

That, I have no idea. :-/

Hi,

I need to confirm few things which is related to this topic. I am currently working as Manager CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) for last 1.5 years. Previously I was Sr.Executive Engineer.I have total of almost 6 years of experience on computer networks and systems (Unix based servers). I am handling team of 6 network engineers. CMTS department is looking after the ISP (Internet Service Provider) side of the broadband network. My questions are :

1. How much points will i get for experience (total exp is 6 years but on manager post 1.5 years)?
2. I have already applied for Canada on July 2007 (NOC 2147).Is it better for me to withdraw my last application and reapply for fasttrack (NOC 0213)?

Please help

You will be qualifying for 15 points, as the Experience listed on NOC list is less than 2 Years,so you will get points for 1 or 1.5 years, which is 15.

If u wait for 6 months, then u can claim 17.

that's wrong.

You get points for all of your experience as long as:

*You must have at least one continuous year of full-time, paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time continuous employment.
*Your work experience must be in the category of Skill Type 0, or Skill Level A or B on the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC). See below for instructions on determining the NOC category for your work experience.
*You must have had this experience within the last 10 years.

good luck!

The OP needs 1 year of experience in the past 10 years on the "List". He can also count experience in the past 10 years from other jobs, that fall into the skill level A,B or O. So he has 1.5 years as a manager and 4.5 years of skilled work in level A, so he will get 21 points.

Its great if it works this way, thanks for correction,

If applying under Category 1, you have to see the federal skilled worker application package guide
