I used to work in store in Toronto and they do not have same management now. What should I do in order to get a reference letter or what is an alternate to it?
I did not gain any points out of it as it was a part time job as cashier.
I still know few employees who worked with me over there.
I do have T4 for that company.

Please advise.

If that job isn't important either in terms of making you eligible for EE or adding CRS points, you can choose to leave out that work experience completely. You'll have to mention it in your personal history later and you don't need reference letters for that.

All the best!

So, correct me If I am wrong, I don't have to provide proof for experience I am mentioning under personal history?
I just have to provide proof for the work history and for what I am gaining points.

Sorry... just to clarify here.

You can have jobs that are on your Personal History, but not included in your Work History, if they don't influence your total score?

So me trying to get references from Home Depot and HMV, where I worked for a total of 3 months as a cashier in both (i.e. no points) can be excluded entirely from my Work History, and just included in my Personal History, and therefore I don't have to get references for them?

This is excellent news, if accurate.

Of course you can. There is no need to validate work experiences which have no bearing on your eligibility or CRS score.

Yes. Unless CIC specifically asks for it and that's a very rare occurrence which might be necessitated by something in your background check not adding up when you were at those jobs. In such a case, basic documentation that proves you were indeed employed at exactly when and where you claimed you were employed should be sufficient. This could be employment letter, experience letter, pay stubs, tax records etc.

Hope that clarifies.

Asivad Anac ,
Thanks a lot, I don't even know if you were not there, what I would have done. You are a true savior. You saved my 3k-5k lawyer fees.
If you are in Toronto let me know, you definitely deserve a treat. :)

I also worried about my 1 year work ex. in home country for which I cant get reference letter. So does it mean, If I dont want to get points for that ex., I should not include it into work experience and put it into personal history?

Am I right?

One of my employers is not giving me a proper Job description, Job title and even salary information. The employer is scared that CIC will call him and ask previous records etc.

What do I do?

1. If this work experience is critically important towards your program eligibility and you are getting CRS points for it, you'll need that letter to best support your applications. Try and convince this employer that there is actually a much higher chance of CIC calling him if he doesn't issue the letter because you'll anyways be claiming that employment on your profile. So it is in his best interest to issue you the letter with those details. If the employer still doesn't agree, write a letter of explanation detailing your efforts at trying to get this letter and support it with other documentation that you already have.

2. If this work experience is not determining your program eligibility or getting you CRS points, you can ignore this work experience in your work history and just include it in personal history after getting ITA.

All the best!

So CIC would normally call this employer and verify if in doubt?

No one can predict if or why CIC would call an employer. They might call to verify things for themselves if they notice any discrepancies.
