Hello,

I am U.S. citizen who married a Canadian. I am going through the process of becoming a Canadian. I submitted my application, got a FBI background check, and paid the fee. The only thing I need to send in now is the physical. I haven't done it yet, but I set up an appointment today with a doctor in Michigan. The doctor in the States is requesting a IME number? I asked him what is that... and his only response is that it was implemented this month of November and I have no clue what he is talking about. I currently work in Michigan, I am immigrating to Windsor, ON. I currently have a visitors record.

Thank you for your help!

Pete

IME = Immigration Medical Exam.

Did you receive a medical request from the visa office or are you trying to do it ahead of time on your own accord(to save time)? If it's the latter, that may explain why the DMP turned you down, as the medical request form(s) will contain a unique number.

This link may be of help: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/dmp-handbook/section-11.asp

Thank you for your response. My application is turned in, I paid for it... and it is still getting processed. Do I just wait for them to respond back to me with what medical exam I should take then? This is for Canadian Citizenship, not a Visa.

Thank you! :)

Actually, you are going through the process of becoming a "Permanent Resident of Canada" not a Canadian citizen. :) To be eligible for citizenship, you must have been a "permanent resident" for at least 2 years and must have 1095 days of physical presence in Canada in the 4 years preceeding the application. You have a few years to go before that.

All applicants for permanent residence are required to undergo an immigration medical exam(IME), the reason the physician is asking for a IME #. From your comment earlier, it seems applicants are no longer able to have medical exams in advance. So you have to wait for a medical request(and forms) from the visa office as it will likely have the IME #.

Thank you for your help! I appreciate it. Before it seemed like you just did the physical, and you just send it in with the application. I guess now I gotta just wait.

Thanks again! I appreciate the help.

As you are applying as a sponsored spouse, you don't require an IME (old appendix C) the DMP's receptionist was in error. S/he may have not known you were a spousal applicant. Nothing has changed for spousal applicants, except there is no longer an appendix C. They do the medical upfront.

What will the person I want to sponsor have to do?

The person you want to sponsor (and their family members if applicable) will have to:

sign the Application to Sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking (IMM 1344),
complete the forms included with The Immigrant’s Guide (IMM 3998) and provide appropriate documentation in support of their application,
undergo a medical examination prior to submitting the application (results are valid for 12 months),

Re: Errors in IMM1017 form !!!

Hi,

I am doing my post graduation in Pediatrics in USA. I have an offer to start my fellowship in Toronto starting July, 2013. I applied for work permit for me and my spouse (open work permit) on Feb 5th 2013. After 2 months (60 days exactly), I emailed them and finally got my IME 1017 form. Apparently the form they sent for my spouse has mistakes in her last name and DOB. I have been trying to contact them through multiple emails to inform about this, but it's been unsuccessful. Neither I have a new form from them nor a reply email.

Has anyone been in similar situation like me? Can someone guide me what else to do, given that I have only 2 months left to start my fellowship.I know it takes a while for the visa to be awarded after the medical form reaches them.

My other question is, Can the medical examination be done by any DMP across the world. Because I am in India this month for an elective rotation, I thought I should make use of this time to do my medical exam. Some one please guide me. I would very much appreciate it. Thanks !

Hi! I was just informed by my (only) doctor in the motherland that i need that IME number, but then I told him that i was applying as a sponsored spouse so I'm still waiting for a reply. On the CIC website, they seem to have a new medical guide coming out this month (July 2013). Not sure if that will change anything but as soon as i find out/receive a reply from the doc, I'll let you all know so the info is updated in case someone else asks about this IME number.
As to why they are making things so complicated not just for us, but for themselves over at any CIC office worldwide, is beyond me...

Good luck all!
