What if Pregnent while Landing as PR

What if someone wife is pregnent before landing Canada as PR ?
Will maternity expenses will be free or chargeable , if chargeable then how much ?
I assume she won't getting any maternity pay unless she had work. 600 hours .

One of my friend in MI3 got his PPR and his wife is 3 month pregnant due in Sep . And he planning to land Toronto in July.

Will choosing BC , Ontario or Alberta will make any diffrence .

I m interested as we work at same place in UK and planning to Land and start life together as 2 families can be better to help each other in new country .

I have further question ,
I notice Alberta give Medical benifits from first day ,
Is it possable that we go Alberta first and get medical card (do we need any address for physical delivery of card ? Or they give on same day )
2. As we looking to live in Toronto (ON).
So i assume that Medical card will work there too , now should i change my UK driver licences in Alberta
Or change them in Toronto .
3. While landing should we give Alberta address or Toronto address to Immigration officer at airport to send our PR cards .

An Alberta health care card will not work in Ontario.

If you want to be covered by the Alberta health care system, then this needs to be the place you plan to live. If you land at first in Alberta and then move to Ontario a few days or a few weeks later, you will still have to wait three months without health care coverage before you will be able to be covered in Ontario.

Having your baby in Alberta and then moving to Ontario immediately afterwards is also pretty risky. There was a story here a few months ago where Alberta went after a new immigrant for the costs of the pregnancy and labour (around $60K?) because the family clearly had no plans to live in Alberta - but simply had the baby there and left for another province afterwards.

Long story short, Alberta health care coverage is only something you can take advantage of if you actually have plans to live in Alberta. You need a physical Alberta address.

If you plan to live in Ontario, then you will have to wait three months before you have health care coverage and during this three months period, you will have to pay for all health care costs out of pocket.

One more question , what proof needed for 600 hours working ?
What if we registered our own Co and show that we both work as Director in that company setting up any business. Will we both entitled to benifits after 3-4 month.

Or , what else can be way to show that 600 hours as working beside doing job/employed.

The definition of insurable hours is below. I don't believe the scenario you've described (setting up your own company and working as directors) would qualify.

In your case there is enough time to get your coverage before delivery. Taking risk on landing to different province and then moving around will be not wise decision; you are going to start a new life in a new country, needed very careful decision.

What if get baby born in UK and then take her with us (as temp visitor ) and apply for her PR, I know it will take over a year but will she cover by free health care during that period.
What plus and minus or delivering baby in UK or Canada.
Keeping in mind UK delivery is free for us and if wife continue work till her maternity leave she entitle for 1 year maternity pay - 3 month full and 9 month half.
But if we going Can 4 month before her due date then we loose part of maternity benefits from her UK employer.

If we get our baby born abroad and then take her to Cambridge on trv then definitely she won't get praying on his first year, in that case if she won't get free Medicals then any idea how much insurance will cost for her as we need to go to Dr quite few time during baby is small and we definitely need medical cover for her in that case.

If you do plan to land in Toronto there are a number of options to help you get health coverage for your family during the 90 day waiting period for the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).

Community Health Centres (CHCs) are located across the Toronto area. They can provide primary health care to new Canadians without OHIP. This care is provided free of charge. Access Alliance is perhaps the best CHC. If calling from the UK you can contact them at 00-1-416-693-8677. I would call them soon to make arrangements, as they can have long waiting lists.

Also another excellent resource is the Community Volunteer Clinic for the Medically Uninsured. They provide primary care free of charge to newcomers. They have a dedicated staff of doctors and nurses who can give special attention to the needs of newly arriving immigrants. You can contact them at 00-1-416-264-4446

Either of these options would be very worthwhile should your wife arrive pregnant or if she delivers your daughter and you arrive after.

- As per profession and experience of my hubby, toronto/ON is the best choice to land in.
- We are also expecting our baby in mid Nov. 2012 and concerned about health facility provision there in ON.
- Should we land together at the earliest ( say 01 aug ) wait for health card till 30 Oct and take the risk of three months without health cover.
- or Should we land together and I should return after couple of days back to h.country and return after few months of the birth (say next mar/apr)
- or Should I stay back home till the baby arrives and then fly in two months after the birth (will have visa till next apr '13)
Feel so tentative and nerves in absence of a clear information

Best is to land in Alberta. Medical will cover from first day .

Not advisable to land at Ontario and stay 3 month without medical as insurance dont cover maternity .

Last choice , return to your home country after landing leaving your husband alone but there are lot of draw back as then your baby will be a temp residence in canada for over a year and you still need to pay for his medical insurance till he bacame PR and completed 3 month waiting period .

If you or your husband (main applicant ) land before change in family composition then visa will be void and you need to resent your passport for new visa .

Not sure what if your husband land alone as Princ app and you come after child birth
