Hello guys, thankfully I have not lost my COPR. But the scenario is such I have to be prepared for it. I plan to have a holiday in a small tropical Asian country for a week plus. Then from there take a flight to Canada.

But not everything is fun in paradise. What if I lost passport or COPR letter. Is it game over for me as far as Canada PR status is concerned? Or I can get a duplicate issued?

If later then do I have to return back to my home country( India) to get all duplicates. Or I can get it issued in Canada later? And what are timeframe for same?

Will really appreciate if someone can answer this. Maybe I have to review the trip or it can shut up the worry in the back of my mind. Thanks.

You can email CPC-Ottawa or your local VO to reissue a CoPR. They may just require some explanation. There will be time delays but it can be done.

If that concerned enough to come on here well obviously take copies with you of both your COPR and your passport and keep them separate plus also leave copies with someone in your home country. Also as a failsafe if really concerned keep digital copies anything really to help in getting replacements should the worst happen.

Good luck and try not to over think that the worst will happen there is only so much you can do beyond common sense, even what I am suggesting is overkill but if it means you enjoy your break then fine.

Your passport you'll need to figure out with your own country. Canada will have nothing to do with that, but you definitely need a valid passport to do a PR landing.

Also since you are not visa-exempt, the new passport will need to be sent physically to a visa office to get a new PR visa placed in it to go with the COPR. Obviously between your own country and IRCC actions that need to be done, this will all take considerable time to complete.

So just make sure you don't lose them.

Hi,

Unluckily my husband and I lost our passport, COPR and other travel documents issued by Canadian Embassy and our flight to Canada is on July 10,2019. Do we need to start from the very beginning of the application like medical exam? How long it will take again. We are under the atlantic immigration program.

Thanks, Carla

Why would you think you need to start at the beginning? Just contact the VO to let them know, send your new passports and have the documents re-issued. It may very well take longer than a month, so you may need to reschedule your flights.

You don’t need to start the whole process again but you need to get all your documents again starting with your passport. Not sure how he lost all these documents but you also need to contact the various agencies to alert them that your documents have been stolen because they could be used fraudulently. It will be difficult but hopefully you can get all these documents again before your flight. You will likely need to pay for expedited processing where available.

Find someone to bring their COPR to Canada and then schedule a visit to the border for their landing!

They can explain to CBSA when entering and see if the officer will print their COPRs so they can land. If not, they will likely be allowed entry as visitors, have to get the COPRs sent to them in Canada and flagpole to land.
