What happens to visitor record after TRV renewal?

1. If a foreign national with a valid visitor record and expired TRV leaves Canada and re-enters Canada with a new TRV, does the person permitted to stay in Canada until the visitor record expires or will a CBSA officer issue a new date at the POE?

2. does the expiry date of a study/work permit indicate the authorized period of stay?
