Hello all. We are set to visit Vancouver for a short time - about 4 or 5 days. We had planned to take an Alaskan cruise and also see a concert of my favorite band who is touring there in Vancouver. I bought the concert tickets, but the plans for the cruise fell through so we decided to go ahead and make an extended weekend out of it and visit Vancouver for a couple of days and see the concert then head home.

My question is - my boyfriend has a DUI from many many years ago, but I'm nervous he will be denied. We even applied to have his DUI expunged here in the states - but I like to be prepared. We want to have an idea for a backup vacation plan if we can't go to the concert and aquarium and such.

If we are denied entry once we land in Canada at the airport, what happens? Will the airline bring us home since we have round trip tickets? Will we have to purchase new tickets to get home?

Also, it was MUCH cheaper to fly to Seattle and drive up to Vancouver, but we read that the customs agents at the airport are better with letting people through with old DUI's. I'd much rather fly into Seattle and use that extra cash for the rental car there -then drive in. Any advice there?

Thanks in advance! ;D

Yes - if there's a problem you will be sent home on the first available flight with your airline. You shouldn't have to pay anything extra since you have return tickets.

If the DUI was more than 10 years ago you should be fine.

I have no advice on driving vs. flying to provide.
