These are 2 of the promises he made during the elections:

1) Changes in EE to make it easier for international students.
2) More points for candidates with siblings in Canada.

Backtracked from these promises?

There is no reason to assume that they have backtracked from their promises but promises are one thing. They have an economic downturn, falling oil prices, refugees, wildfires and much more to deal with as well.

On top of that, any changes have to make their way through parliament and become law so I wouldnt expect to see any changes to EE before the end of the year.

In the meantime, you should try to do your best to improve your score in the current system, as nobody knows what changes will eventually happen or when.

I understand. But this is also a very important matter involving thousands and thousands of students and their families and the Canadian economy. There has been no progress on this since the election which is not fair at all. They should work towards it asap.

They have a bigger fish to eat here.

Impacts all new PR and international students after PR.
They then have the family sponsorship.
Their priorities are to those who vote or about to vote.

New liberal government has 4 years to work on those, we are half year in

They clearly have more important things to work on, economy, refugee crisis, pot legalization, electoral reform, etc. Change to EE system is not their top priority

slightly good news for international students is that their time as students will count (up to 1 year) when they apply for citizenship in the future

Re: Intl. students getting a "year bonus" toward citizenship.

There's nothing fair about immigration. Let's be thankful we're not refugees.

I'm coming up on six years in Canada with a Canadian education, stable professional career in Engineering & Sciences, a Canadian child and I'm in the same boat as any other international student, immigrant, FSW, etc. We wait, we pay fees, we sweat, we wait, we wait...

Focus on today and don't worry about tomorrow, or what the government may do. Good luck.

@ wildemam

I don't think bill C-6 will impact new PR for international students. C-6 bill is just for people who already have PR and in the process of applying for citizenship. Listen to minister comments at 12:05. He states that he willing to add extra points for international students in near future.
