Hi all,
I have a query for my friend.

What does "Work on campus" mean?

Does it mean only the work of Teaching assistantship/Research Assistantship or It may also include working in store/departmental store inside the campus (like Tim hortons & others) area?

Look forward to hearing from you.

This will not be an issue any more as you can work on campus and off campus with a valid study permit.

Yes. Just be aware that you can work up to 20 hours per week during school time (with full-time study) and work full-time during scheduled school breaks (summer) given that you are a full time student for the Fall and Winter semesters.

Thank you very much for your reply. But my friend has different concern.

Well he is doing his masters. Thus no summer break. He know these rule too...however is there any time limit for working on campus (like that has 20 hour in case of off campus)? He heard that there is no working hour bindings for working on campus. Would you please help him out in this regard.

I repeat his query again below:

will working in store/departmental store inside the campus area (like Tim hortons & others) should be treated as "on campus" job or it will be treated also as "off campus" job since payment will be from like Tim hortons not from the university?

I appreciate your reply.

On campus means working for the university. Working for Tim Horton's is off campus work.

Agree. As for on campus work hours, I think it's 20hrs/week as well. Correct me if I am wrong.

I disagree , tim hortons within uni boundary is on campus work nd there is no hours limit for working on campus...but off campus you can only work 20 hours

1. On campus WP does not limit the number of working hours/week.
2. You can work for any entity with in the campus boundaries.

Better check with the employer.
E.g. In my case, working at the shoppers drug mart on my campus is considered "off-campus", because it is not affiliated with the school (even though located within the school's boundary).
On the other hand, working at the Tim Horton inside my Student Union Building is considered "on-campus" because it is affiliated with the school.

I dont think affiliated or not matters unless its not within University boundary... The only time CIC mentions about affilication is when the thing is outside the uni boundary

"Students may work on campus as teaching or research assistants and may be located at a library, hospital, or research facility affiliated with the institution but located outside the physical boundaries of the institution's campus. This is allowed provided that the work is strictly related to the student's research grant."

But other than that its all about the job should be phsically located on campus.

"What is considered "on-campus" work?

On-campus employment is defined as employment within the boundaries of the campus or in facilities owned, leased, or rented by UBC. For example, your employer may be the University, a student organization, or a private contractor operating within the boundaries of the campus, such as a business in the University Village and Wesbrook Village."
