What does approved in principal mean?

Can someone tell me with some details what exactly approved in principal means and what CIC looks for in order to determine that you have reached it?
I just need some specific explanation since I'm
a little bit confused.. Thanks in advance..

Not sure why I'm taking the time to reply, considering you think I'm ALWAYS NEGATIVE, but...


AIP means that the sponsor has been approved and that the foreign national (applicant) has met the qualifications to apply for PR, even though they already have applied.

The relationship with the sponsor has been evaluated by CIC and is determined to be genuine.


The only thing that CIC has to check after AIP is admissibility issues, such as criminality, security/background, and medical.
