Hi, I was wondering if anyone had similar experience and could give us some guidance.
For a Chinese national to marry a Canadian citizen in Canada (Ontario), what kind of documents are required from both parties?
We heard that the Chinese national needs to provide a document to prove that he/she is single (obtained in China) and needs to get that document notarized twice? It's very confusing. What other documents do we need and from where? Thanks, everyone, for helping us! We are at lost...

my wife is also chinese (HK) and we got married a few months back. In our case, we had a priest that wed us, then we registered with the government. Both the priest and government wanted a "proof of no marriage" in English, which she was able to get here in HK.

Thanks for replying!

According to below info found on ontariomarriagelicense:

Q What documentation do we need to bring to get the licence?
A Each party needs two pieces of original identification; One piece of ID must be one of the following (plus any change of name certificate):

Birth Certificate
Current passport
Record of Immigrant Landing
Canadian Citizenship papers
Adoption papers
The second piece of ID must be a photo identification. ALSO, if a widow / widower, bring proof of death of previous spouse(s).

My question is: does this mean we only need our passport and for example, our birth certificate? But following what browtrout's reply to my post, his wife was required for a "proof of no marriage", this is not listed on ontariomarriagelicense though. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Also, if a "proof of no marriage" is required, can it be obtained through the Chinese embassy in Canada or can only be obtained in China? Does it then need to be translated into English and then notarized? Thanks a lot!
