Hi everyone,
My husband has received a fully-funded scholarship to pursue a PhD in Québec, and we’re now preparing to apply for:
  1. His study permit
  2. My open work permit as his accompanying spouse
We’ve been married for one month, so we want to make sure we provide the right documents — especially since our marriage is recent.
We’d really appreciate any guidance or shared experiences!

For My Husband (Main Applicant – PhD with Scholarship):
  • What are all the required documents for his study permit?
  • Are there any Québec-specific requirements (e.g., CAQ)?
  • If you were on a scholarship, what extra documentation did you include?
  • Any specific format or points we should mention in the Letter of Explanation, if needed?
For Me (Spouse – Open Work Permit Applicant):
  • What documents are required for a spouse open work permit?
  • Do I also need a CAQ since we’re going to Québec?
  • Since we’re newly married, what kind of relationship proof should we include?
  • Any helpful tips on what to add to strengthen our application?
Would love to hear from anyone who went through a similar process — especially if your spouse was also a PhD student in Québec.
Thanks in advance!
