I had what I called in my application an “engagement party/ring ceremony/ wedding ceremony to acknowledge our marriage all done on same day in December at her familys house .. my family (sisters) and her family (parents and siblings)attended. We took pictures/gifts on the table dress, but not a white. And swapped rings...(I added a lot of pictures of us out and about, and pictures with our families together) Her father after went home and a had supper back home with my father and all family and friends and she had party with her friends aswell.. I didn’t go, as I went back to Canada, then after that I flew back to Egypt and got officially got married on paper 2 months later no ceremony or nothing. And this was an arranged meeting, so I called an arranged marriage in my application

It wasn’t marriage by proxy I was there when we officially got married.. and I was there durning the ceremony in December

there was a smillar case like your the guy was there for engagement but not there for the cermoney he also went back to Canada. the fathers did the ceremony someone actually said when if your not there physically and father's dud cermony is refer to a proxy marriage. because cic will ask you why were you not there in your cermony

Again I was there in December with both families and her when we did ring swap and everything.. that supper they had the fathers was just done so families and friends knew he married his daughter back home it wasn’t a ceremony. then I flew back to Egypt not home country, and official got married on paper with her.

I assumed you are a muslim. When you had your ceremony, did you have a nikkah. If so, did you and your wife take pictures with the Imam during nikkah? Or did you and her father take pictures when the Imam asked if you agreed to the marriage. I would include those pictures. In Afghanistan, the Imam writes the nikkah letter that you and your wife take to court with four witnessess to the judge to register your marriage. I am not sure if it is the same in Egypt. CIC does not know everything about the wedding traditions. The generic application asks for photos signing wedding contract which happens in India and Pakistan but does not happen in Afghanistan. It is a verbal I do in Afghanistan in presence of witnesses. In my country some nikkah and wedding tradition are different among different villages, tribes and different greatly in cities. Just explain it if they ask you something.

thanks, well when i did the marriage contact i just went with her to the local office in egypt where foreigners get married i cant go to my home country, in front of the notary and our 2 witness in the contact, we couldn't take pictures inside the building due it was a government building. but i took a picture with the date with her hold the contract outside..
i just hope they understand the steps i took.. i should have explained it more but i didnt.. just the part were december we had our family reception together and 2 months later did the contract.

Where did you had your ceremony? Which country are you from? Where is your wife?
If you had your ceremony and your marriage certificate from the same place you should be fine.
The government gave me my marriage certificate after a month but I made sure he put my wedding date correctly. My certificate mentions my wedding date and the date the certificate was issued. The judge was busy with other things. Just like you, we are not allowed to take pictures inside court. I think cic will understand, if they ask just explain it to them.

You should be fine. I did not wear any suite and my wife did not wear any white dresses. It is not part of our culture. My wife and I both wore Afghani wedding clothes. You can explain to cic that you had to come back to Canada. That your family did the celebration and you don't follow the tradition that much. You are religiously married when you did your nikkah and legally married when you went to court. People need to use the correct language as "married on paper" is not the correct way to describe it. It seems suspicious. The correct term is legally married because that is where you, your wife and the witnessess went in front of the government judge. You are religously married when you do your nikkah. Since religion/government is not seperated in Afghanistan, Egypt and Libya, you are both religiously and legally married. The religious part is like when people here go to church and says I do in front of thr priest. The going to court is more more like having a civil ceremony in front of a judge in Canada.
