What do you tell Immigration when landing?

Hi I was wondering what questions they ask you when you arrive in Canada on a visitors visa.

I am planning on visiting my boyfriend and possibly getting married there and apply inland. Surely if I say visiting my boyfriend that will start triggering all kind of alarm bells?

I am a nervous wreck that I will be turned away at the airport after reading all the forums.

Visiting your boyfriend shouldn't set off any alarm bells, as long as you're not going to be working during the visit (you or he or both have enough money to pay for whatever you're going to do during the visit) and you have both the means and the willingness to return after your visit. You need to have something to go back to, preferably an apartment or house and a job, and maybe some kind of obligations or connections that you wouldn't be willing to sever in favour of a boyfriend.

If you should happen to get married during the visit, well that's a decision you can make when you get to Canada. Telling the border guard that you're coming to get married just might set off alarm bells, and you would need evedence of very strong ties to your country of permanent residence.

Just tell them you are going to visit a fried and give them the correct address of the friend they dont need to know he is a boyfriend or you plan to marry. But i think you have to apply for a visa to enter canada first and get approved for the visa unless your from the US then just show up at the border tell thm your going to visit friends for how ever long you are staying for. Then when you get in do your thing.

Also make sure you have a return ticket and if your ticket is for more than a couple weeks well then they are going to wonder why your staying to visit friends for so long and what about your ob etc etc

Thanks for your replies.

I was planning on a six week visit if my bosses are willing. They will also give me a letter saying I am on leave. Hope all of this will help/

Yes, the letter will help a lot. Otherwise, they would be suspicious of whether you can really get away with missing that much work.
