When they say the official length of study should be 2 years, is this equivalent to the actual study of 16 months (4 months break for each year)?

And how long is a study permit issued for a 2 year program? Because on the CIC site, it says you :

You must apply for a work permit within 90 days of receiving written confirmation (for example, a transcript or an official letter) from your institution indicating that you have met the requirements for completing your academic program.
Thanks.

So will the study permit expire before then? Can it be extended?

1. Yes, that equals 2 years.
2. Completion of an eligible 2 year program should give you a 3 year PGWP
3. If you apply for your PGWP upon completion of your program and before your study permit expires, you are on implied status until a decision is made on your PGWP.

Oh, phew. That really removed some worries for me.

Thank you for replying to me, may your kindness be returned to you plenty.

:)

I appreciate it. Thanks.....

Much peace,

KB.

OK wait...
Now I am confused again....

Here in this link it says your work permit cannot be longer than your course of studies. So how can it be 3 years work permit if I've only studied for a 2 year program?

Sorry..

Not confusing, a 2 year program is (generally) eligible for a 3 year PGWP:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad-who.asp

Sorry, I forgot to add the link, its here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad.asp

It says:

A work permit under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program cannot be valid for longer than the student's study program. For example, if you graduate from a four-year degree program, you could be eligible for a three-year work permit if you meet the criteria. If you graduate from an eight-month certificate program, you would be eligible for a work permit that is valid for no more than eight months.

Note: In some circumstances, the work permit may be valid for less time than the length of your studies.

I know what it says, the link I gave you provides more detail and states explicitly-

If the official length of your program of study is… Then…

two years or more ... a work permit may be issued for three years
