Hi all,

I am in the process of sponsoring my common-law partner, however, I am a bit concerned that they are asking for the address of my parents as they do not know that we have been living together for the past couple of years and I don't really want them to find out through the immigration process. Does anyone know if they post anything to the sponsor's parents and if they do what do they ask exactly? Thanks

S

They post nothing to them. It is a formality, I believe it is part of the background check process - additionally, if you should ever choose to sponsor them to enter Canada the information is important.

Just a heads up - during the process there are specific questions where it is asked if your parents are aware of your relationship... don't lie... whatever you do. Tell them that your parents are aware of your relationship (if they are) and that they are not aware you are living together because (insert whatever the reason may be).

Common - Law partnerships are a difficult sort of application and proof is very important, you have to be VERY thorough.

Best of luck.

Thanks a lot!! That is a relief. My parents are also Canadian but they are living abroad at the moment. They are aware of the relationship but do not know we have been living together. I have not told them for cultural/religious reasons and will mention this on the form.

:) good luck! and be as thorough as you possibly can! Those missing letters of support could hurt a little, but you can make up for it for sure.
