What do I bring for PoE IEC?

Hi... can any1 plz suggest some insurance companies that allow 2 years? all of them that i can find are maximum 1 year.. what should i do?
i have a new passport after receiving poe.. should i bring both? do i need a new eta for ground reentry? as i am already in canada and im not returning by flight or boat.. only by walking to usa poe and back..
anything i should know?? i am a bit nervous.

Which country is your home country, if UK or Europe you could try True Traveller who have a specific 2 year IEC policy even available if already travelling, other than that cannot advise but as you seem aware to get a 2 year permit you need 2 years insurance.

If you have a new passport you need to take old or a photocopy of old bio page and new along with the POE letter.

ETA is for boarding a plane only not a land border but you will need a new ETA if you ever leave in future and come back by air so for sake of 7 dollars for a 5 year ETA recommended to have that anyway on your to do list on your new passport rather than leave until last moment. Not needed though to activate IEC at a land border.

You still need a bank statement dated within 7 days of when you flagpole showing at least 2500 CDN, whether CBSA ask to see it or not cannot be predicted but that is a requirement.

Plenty of posts around about flagpole process although on some land border crossings through summer CBSA have been refusing flagpolers over weekends due to border congestion so you should check current status.

I am from AUS and so i do not need ETA? i am just flagpoling by land and not travelling via air anytime soon... must i bring all docs i submitted for IEC or no? and what do i say to usa border and canadian border? do i tell usa border im here to flagpole for canadian work permit?
my bank is conjoint with my spouses, so there are history of pay from his employers.. should i get a bank letter stating that so cbsa doesnt think i was already working? will they even accept conjoint bank or does it have to be only my name alone..

also, can i plz get advice on insurance? what should i do cause i cannot find anyone offering 2 years!

You should find in your POE letter a reference to you having an ETA assigned with your POA but you only need an ETA if flying into Canada.

For insurance I did a quick Google and this company whom I have no info on seem to cover Australians for 2 years on an IEC https://www.duinsure.com.au/policies/international-experience-canada/

Plenty of people might say take out Canadian insurance which can be an option but coverage can be limited and does not include repatriation to home country should the worst happen. Plenty examples online where people have been caught out by that and been in debt for a long time.

As said plenty of posts here about flagpoling but simply you leave Canada at the land border head for the US side where you tell US CBP you are not entering the US but flagpoling. They give you a piece of paper that says you have been adminstratively refused entry to the US which has no impact on any future US trips.

With this paper in hand you head back to the Canadian side, present your new passport (plus old passport or photocopy old bio page) and your POE plus the US piece of paper and tell CBSA you are there to activate your IEC permit. In your case ensure you tell CBSA you have a new passport versus the one you applied with.

If they ask for insurance it needs to be 2 years else might not get 2 years permit, as for proof funds they may or may not ask for that , and this is a personal view I cannot see a joint account being an issue given you have access to that as well as long as shows access to the 2500 CDN.

The main rule with CBSA is to answer all questions honestly but not to volunteer information or documents that you are not asked for. So dont offer the insurance or POF unless asked.

You may well get asked how long you have already been in the country as a visitor for example so be prepared to answer that.

Finally check whether there are any border restrictions on flagpoling at weekends for example given some land borders placed weekend restrictions during the summer specifically for example into Ontario from the US due to summer traffic congestion.
