Hi,

I don't know what to do. My husband is sponsoring my to come to Canada now and we are going to send the application soon. But when I was answering the background questions, I noticed the question about being deported from Canada OR ANY OTHER COUNTRY. I have to answer yes because I was deported from the USA many years ago for overstay. But in 2019 I applied for a Canada visitor visa and I answered no to that question because I didn't notice it say any other country. I thought question was just about Canada. So my answers now are not the same as my answer on the 2019 application. I am reading lots of information that says it is misrepresentation and now I'm really worried. Does anyone know what to do in this situation? Please give me good advises.

Answer truthfully, and in the space dedicated to explaining any "yes", saying that you did get deported all those years back, explain in detail what happened. Then, add a Letter of Explanation for the form in question in the documents you'll upload. Explain in it that in your 2019 application, you made a mistake as you didn't understand correctly the question back then. Apologise for the error as well.

With those steps, it's sadly still a toss-up to know what will happen. You did indeed a misrepresentation back on your 2019 application, and it is up to IRCC to decide what to do. Nobody can tell you what will happen because the decision will most likely depend on how kind (or not) the agent who'll process your application will be. But by being truthful you are improving your odds instead of lying and hiding this.
