In some cities/ province, don't think these job are easily available or waiting for you. It may take one month to three months to get these types of jobs after landing. some times even more.

But once you break in the job you will find many ways to explorer more better life in Canada. It's only matter of time. So initial period is testing in Canada for most of the new immigrants then it could be much better as time passed by.

GOOD LUCK

Dear friends,

Thank you so much for you suggestion. Will the income from such survival jobs be enough for living in Canada?

It will be bare minimum, if you are single its possible to have a roof above your head and food in your stomach.

I remember when I started in a restaurant after five months of joblessness I was getting around Cad 1400-150 = Cad 1250/month. Rent Cad 550/month with family of three (in one room basement), grocery Cad 450/month (hand to mouth), travel & entertainment Cad 150 (if once a month can go to Tim Horton with family).

But I was getting Child benefit Cad 275+100 (that cover ups my two years old child expenses), started after three months of landing

Took me 5 months to get a job as a food counter attendant. Currently getting +/- $1800/month. It allows me to pay the bills while I find something within my field of study. Perseverance is everything.

Took me 24 hours to get call centre job after landing in Montreal. After tax salary 1600 cad. Rent 540 for one bed flat close to downtown, transport pass - 77 cad, food 350 CAD, phone and internet - 100 cad. Rest saved successfully. Irregular work hours, occasional racists on phone calling you f*king b*tch or not willing to talk to you because you do not have canadian accent. But better than cleaning toilets.

And after how many months you moved into your field?

Its like saying how long is a piece of string. There is no rule as to how long it will take. For some it can take a few months for others it can take a decades and there are also others who never make it.

Almost after 1 year two months (14 months), I moved to my actual filed of Engineering, but for sure not close to a level I had earlier and don't expect even.

This is quite fast. Congratulations.
I am aware I will never be able to teach at university as before as I will need to do canadian Phd (5-7 years). Doing an accounting diploma (1 year) to work as assistant of accountant seems to be the only way to approach my field and get out of customer service jobs without spending 5 years at school.
