Dear fellow members,

My visa has been issued in recent days and planning to land in February 2013. My profession has been a social worker in my native country which is developing one. The job scenario in Social work field in developing country is quite different from a developed country, as my observation says.
So my worries are how far this field is potential in Canada? Dear seniors or the fellow mates who have already landed please share your thoughts and ideas. Or also suggest me should I change my profession track once I land there?

My gratitude to the forum fellows!

You must study again in Canada...

Yes, I am ready to pursue the diploma programmes or other related courses. But even then how far this is challenging to land a job that might earn me around cad 30-40K in a month?

I have come to know that doctors, dentists and nurses are finding difficulties to get jobs even then they have Canadian degrees. On the other hand, IT field is not that much "far cry". But what about Social work or community services?

Any way, thanks much for the response.

You can't get CAD 30 - 40 K in a month.. If you can get it so it means in 1 year you can get 360 - 480 K except you are a Director / CEO

I am sorry it has to be in a Year. Thanks for pointing that.

I think you can get it around 30K - 40K if you work full time.....

Yes, I mean full time. But what are the chances to grab for new comers?

Seniors, more comments are requested from your insights.

Check out https://charityvillage.com/ and search for jobs. Many of the jobs have salary information and you can get an idea of what you could make in different types of jobs within the social work field. HTH

thanks Wolvy for the link.

For credential assessment who should I go for World Education services/cicic.ca or for the CASW?

I think you should start with first finding out what the requirements are for the particular province that you intend to live. Each one has its own requirements for registration. CASW assessment is accepted in every province except BC and Quebec http://www.casw-acts.ca/en/what-social-work/international-assessment-credentials I'm including Ontario info and they require CASW assessment just to give you an idea if you are intending on settling there http://www.ocswssw.org/en/sw_intl_degree.htm

Hi Wolvy, Apology for my late response. I have browsed through the web link of OSWSSW and find this one very useful for me since I am going to land in Ontario. But I am wondering if I will be eligible for registration as my education background is not on social work nor even on the social science. Being a graduate of humanities what should be my first door to tap for credential assessment? Pls suggest me.

Just to share about my plan after landing, I would be trying to get in touch with any kind of work, I dont mind even voluntary work. At the same time, pursuing bridging programme in different colleges will be another simultaneous effort. Please correct me if my plan is far away from reality.

Once again gratitude for your promptness!
