I am writing this on behalf of my partner from czech republic who I am currently sponsoring through common-law to get PR. I am Canadian and sponsoring her as an in-land common-law partner as we both live in Canada, we applied through sponsorship a month ago now but my partner's work visa is expiring in september. We are trying to figure out what are her options if she doesn't get the AOR needed to apply for a new work permit, is there any other way for her to have the ability to continue to work in Canada while her PR is being processed ? We know that the AOR can take a while to be sent and since it has been a month and still no AOR we are trying to look into the possibilities of what to do once her current work permit expires. Any advice or options that anyone knows about ?

You should have AOR in time. I would be very surprised if you don't.

If you don't, then one option is to change status to a visitor record, wait for AOR, and then apply for the OWP. However then your partner will need to stop working once the original work permit expires and will only be able to start once the OWP is approved.

The other option would involve switching to a closed work permit. However this requires an approved LMIA from the employer and I think you'll be too short on time for that (plus many employers are not willing to go through this process).

I guess one last option would be Express Entry. If your partner has enough points to be selected through EE (and meets all of the requirements), then if your partner can get ITA and submit the complete application before the current WP expires, then she can apply for a BOWP.
