Hello Friends,

I am a software engineer with 9 years of experience, one of the company in toronto wants to hire me, and is going to apply for LMO.
I have been doing the work for the company previously, my expertise is in Java

What are my chances of getting LMO and workpermit. how much time it takes normally.

I am also interested in knowing more about the arranged employment for PR.
How does arranged employment differ from temporary work permit. Does it mean, my employer has to say, he wants to hire me indefinitely, it may be one year, 10 or even more.

Work Permits usually can last up to 4 years, if your job offer will last that length then you are in a really good path.

After 3 years of living in Canada with Permanent Resident Card (this you can apply once you have Permanent Resident Status, which you have if you are accepted into one of this programs: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/apply.asp) you will be able to apply for Canadian Citizenship, once you do that you're immigration worries are pretty much over, although some people choose to hang on to their PR Cards and never get Canadian Citizenship.

Answering your questions

1- LMO is done by the hiring side, so your chances are their chances, if the company wants you badly and can justify that they need you and can't find another Canadian to fill that position, the LMO will probably be approved, again the big problem is that making a LMO has costs, and sometimes companies don't even know about this, and they tell people "sure i can hire you", but when they get the "bill" for the LMO they may change their minds.
2- Arranged employment is exactly what it's written... you have an arranged job from a Canadian Company/Boss which is a strong decisive factor in your Work Permit application, if the company hiring you states that they want you for an X number of years, then your work permit duration will probably be in the vicinity of those X number of years. This would be a paper written by them that you would have to send with your Work Permit application.

Advice: Look into the Federal skilled program instead of work permits... http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp

Can you tell me whats the companies name? I am also looking for an IT job in Canada, thanks.

A work or study permit does NOT give you PR status or a PR card. The information contained in the quoted post is incorrect.

Sorry, I cant disclose the name of the company ;)

- Any idea how much the LMO costs !
- Lets say the company offers me arranged employment (permanent job, with no mention of duration), is there any rule for minimum duration for which I must work for the company.
- I cant try for FSW this year, because computer programmers quota is already full, 300 cap reached. (do you mean i can still apply !)
