Ok, my wife's name is Paolina on her birth certificate...but she always assumed that her name is PaUlina, as normally written in Spanish. So her emails name is PaUlina etc....do you think that the visa office in Bogota will think something is wroing with this??? or am I starting to paranoid a little too much?

thanks..

meh... i think people can adapt alternate names/spelling that best suit their lifestyle... I can't remember but i think there might even be a section where it asks if you go by any other name, in that spot she might want to put "paulina" and explain if necessary...

i wouldn't worry too much as long as it's obviously that SHE is the person you married and not some one else with a similar name :)

good luck

My wife was is the same situation she spell her last name different than what it said on her birth certificate so I sent an affidavit along with the birth certificate explaining the situation. Her immigration is still in process but I havnt heard anything from CIC as of yet regarding that.

well, it's not her last name, it's just that in spanish, most people with her name is Paulina, but her parents decided Paolina.....but she uses her last name correctly everywhere. It's just that the name on her email, facebook and chat (msn) is Paulina.......hence why I do not know if they will think she is a different person....kind of hard to send an affidavit when she is in Colombia...

Just send something that clarifies that, a letter or a note on your evidence. I would assume this is actually pretty common when translating names.

well, when she asked for her Visitor visa, she filled in the form with PAULINA but then they followed her identity card and wrote PAOLINA on the visa and never said anything....

I would still send a clairificaion note, just so it doesn't get rejected for a stupid reason like that. Every Immigration officer behaves differently, it all depends on their mood what they feel like doing. So save your ass by sending an explaination letter. Simple and easy if they still have problem with it they will contact you.

what can I say as an explanation:

My wife always used the name Paulina because she believe it was her name because it's the most common form on writting it in Spanish? The IO will buy that?

That sounds weird - why would someone not know what their name is or how it is officially spelled? Lots of people use a different form of their given name, though - so in the explanation just state that while her official given name is ___, she has always gone by ___.

hi if she applied before with the name paulina and got a visa on the name paolina doesn´t seem yto matter!!!!

by the way my lastname is weird spelling in spanish and when i applied for a visitor visa they spelled it really wrong!!1 but anyways i went there and came back with no problems

theres a place onm the form when it says you should write other names you had use she can write there paulina and i believe everything is gona be fine...
just be sure to fill the forms with the name paolina so she gets her PR under thename and that her passport says Paolina too
