Hi friends,

I've noticed that computer programmer is one of the new 24 in-demand job. I'm now currently working as web developer.

I know that web developer is on different code with computer programmer on NOC classification list but as employment requirements to become a web developer, you have an experience with computer programmer. I also know that it could be determined by the job description. But my worry now is the job description that my company can provide is for Web developer.

So would it be still possible to apply in FSWC?

I'm also a graduate of Computer Engineering and it is on the 24 in-demand list as well but have no experience.

Your opinion is always appreciated, thanks!

Nice points shared by you. I thought that "Web Developer / Programmer" Can apply under 2174 as they have mentioned it under example titles. The job duties are however a bit different for 2174 and 2175.

What are the solution for this as both of them as pretty identical, except few very small things.

Thanks for you answer jigzyy.I'm glad you noticed my post.

Yes, there is title like "Web Programmer", "Programmer,Web" under example title of (2174). But if you search on the job duties/responsibilities of Web Programmer posted by most of the companies, it falls under (2175). If you also look on the employment requirements of any jobs under (217) group aside of (2174), computer programming experience is required. So all jobs under (217) can apply? This makes me confused.

I read some articles that IT professional is in-demand in Canada but I'm still hesitant due to this job title and description differences. Even though I feel my IT experience is enough as Computer Engineering graduate,Web Developer/Programmer before and now I'm starting as IT project manager. I'm also worried that since the cap on each job for the new in-demand list is just 300, Canadian immigration might prioritize the applicant with solid experience in computer programming and not with web development/programming.

Given the fact that Immigration Consultant can answer these questions, I would like to hear first the opinion of IT professional here because they are the one who have more knowledge the job title/description differences for this field.

I hope somebody can help and also share their opinions.

Thanks in advance everyone!

Hi webguy123,

I am also a web developer but I will ask my employer to give me Software developer letter so that I am not in doubt with 2174 duties.

For "2174 Computer programmers and interactive media developers" visit:

http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2011/QuickSearch.aspx?val65=2174

Click on "View all titles"

In the next page, You will notice that "Web programmer" appears under 2174.

So, talk with you boss (Human Resource) & tell him to provide you an experience letter containing the words "Web programmer" instead of "Web developer".

Hi,

Its not only the title of your designation what matters, but the responsibilities you perform (which your HR manager will write on the letter), if the work you perform include even some of the duties mentioned under 2174, or simillar (i.e. you do write programs for web applications or you do the designing of the GUI for such internet/web applications etc) then also you can apply.

And I would say that its better to try and fail than to not try at all.

Remember that the titles mentioned on the NOC website are just samples, so don't think that if your designation is not listed or the duties are not 100% exact match then you can't apply... but if you feel that you perform similar responsibilities or related... then also apply.

It would really depend on your job description from your employment certification.

You need an employment certification from your employer and the job description should match the NOC description.

They will usually call your employer to verify, so attach a business card of your employer. In my case, the embassy did call my employer.

Thanks for everyone's reply. I hope my company could provide the job description that would match with 2174. That's the best solution for now. I agree with jotgrewal that it's better to try and fail that not to try at all.

But do you think in 2 months time, the slot for 2174 is still available?

Thank you!
