Hello,

Apologies for the conspicuously worded topic subject; I simply don't know what to do in this situation.

My girlfriend is applying for a Canadian visitors visa. She is a model in Guangzhou, China, and is mainly paid in the form of cash. She has one bank account, albeit with very limited funds. She struggles to get by, day by day. Her mother in Belarus is also poor, and does not have a bank account. They do, however, have a permanent residence in Belarus.

While she does earn enough money to live, it is hard to prove that with her bank account.

Should she come to Canada, she will live with me, all expenses paid, and go back to her country for work after 6 months.

What can I do in this situation? How can I explain to CIC our situation?

Many thanks.

You can say that you will cover her expenses while she is visiting Canada and include a letter stating this in her visitor visa - plus your pay slips, or bank statements. However she will also need to prove that she has strong ties to her home country and has no plans on remaining in Canada long term. This is typically more difficult to prove when you are residing in a country where you don't have permanent residency or citizenship. It's also more difficult to prove when you are young and have few assets. I would recommend that you start off with a shorter trip (e.g. three weeks or maybe a month) rather than a six month trip. If someone is able to come to Canada for a six month visit then CIC will likely say they really have no ties to their home country if they are able to just up and leave like that. I shorter trip is more likely to be approved.

Also - she is not allowed to "live" in Canada with you. She is only allowed to visit. You need to make sure you don't use the word "live" anywhere in the application or your support letter.

Good luck.
