All our papers where returned with a letter saying we where missing parts of our application, Okay so maybe not as bad as being straight up denied, but its about the worst we expected.

The letter is a little bit ambiguous as to what we did wrong, so I'm hoping to have some more experienced folks help us translate. They hlighted some things on our document checklist that we need to correct, but first I'd like some help understanding the list that was placed on the letter itself.(Its important to note that we applied for a work visa and spousal sponsorship at the same time). Its goes like this:

The following items are missing and/or incomplete from your application package:
>Generic Application Form for Canada (IMM 0008)
>Additional Family Information (IMM 5406) for the Principle Applicant, even if the Principle Applicant is under the age of 18; any of your family members 18 years of age or older
>Proof of Status in Canada (Permanent Residence Card, Canadian Citizenship Card, Canadian Citizenship certificate of card(both sides), Canadian birth certificate (for Quebec, only a birth certificate issued by the directeur de I'Etat civil du Quebec is accepted), Canadian passport.

So for the Generic application form, We did include that document for me; the applicant wanting to be sponsored. The only obvious errors I could find might be that the UCI I placed down was from my visitor record and we where a little unsure if that was the correct number to place down. Also we seem to have left "Date and place of your last entry to Canada" Blank on accident. Would either of these be enough to have the document rejected? are we supposed to fill out one of these for my Wife, the sponsor as well?

For Additional Family Information, I don't see any obvious errors on this form, are you supposed to fill out a form for both me and my wife?(Actually just went back and saw some fine print on the form, yes we where supposed to fill out one for each of us, what an oversight ugh)

Finally proof of Status in Canada, simple. We forgot to get photo copy my wife's passport/birth certificate. Oops.

Okay that was the stuff on the letter, the last question we wanted to ask was if you had to pay the Open Work Visa fee at the same time as the Application fee that we already paid for? Are they two different fees? because we didn't remember seeing that requested anywhere.

Thanks for any help you guys give us, and sorry if this lacks coherency, we're both pretty jumbled up right now. It was really exciting getting a parcel back from the CIC after weeks of waiting, and just soul crushing to see we screwed up in so many ways. If you need some more information just ask.

1. yes, that is enough for the document to be rejected. also double check whether there are any "gaps" in dates in your background. if there are gaps, then it would be returned as well.

2. ONLY the applicant needs to fill out the additional family information form, the sponsor-spouse does NOT fill out applicant forms, including this one. Double check you filled it out correctly, fully and signed/validated it. You do need to list your sponsor-spouse on your form, even though they are a canadian.

The "spouse" you most likely are reading about is not the spousal sponsor spouse. this is a generic form for all streams of immigration, and the term"spouse" refers to applicants in other streams where a couple is immigrating together in the same application. this does not refer to your sponsor spouse.

Just wanted to state here that.. The sponsor does not have to fill the Additional family information IMM5406.

You have the other two problem areas already figured.

The PR fees are $1040. The OWP fees are an additional $255: the $155 work permit fee and the $100 Open work permit holder fee. The OWP fees aren't requested anywhere because they aren't actually required for the application; if you are applying for an OWP, you need to take the initiative to pay those fees yourself.

Thanks for the help guys, we're going to go through all the changes and re-check them tomorrow when we're less stressed out.

Hang in there. We had our 1st app sent back because we did not put "N/A" in all the gaps for questions that were "N/A". Theyre extremely picky and sometimes trivial. Review tomorrow and have someone proof read it. Then send it back!
