We are in the Middle of your Background Check

Hi,

I called the call center to check the status of my visitor visa application. The automatic reply told that "We are in the Middle of your Background checks".

Please advice what exactly means.

(I know if they say "we are processing" it means its going on but I want to know specifically about "In the Middle of Background check").

It means they have started but not finished the background check process.

"In the middle" of anything is a very common way of saying something has been started but not finished.
