WAY TO GET 3 YEAR WORK PERMIT FOR PG STUDENTS 8 MONTH COURSE + 4 MONTH COURSE =

There has been a new rule, where if you have a Bachelor's degree from India, and after studying ANY PG certificate course in Canada of atleast 1 acd. year/min. 2 semesters, and then if you pursue a 4 months/ 1 semester- 1.e the final semester of GAS-General Arts and Science (2 years diploma), under some kind of credit transfer clause ..you will be seen as equivalent to a 2 academic year study in Canada and hence will be eligible for 3 years PGWP.This GAS (General Arts and Science last sem diploma credit transfer option) is only offered at Niagara and fanshawe College. So, After fishing your 1 year PG course in any community college, you should head to Niagara or fanshawe college and follow this option... It costs just approx 6,000$ (instead of doing a full 1 acd year course for 12-14,000$ in Ontario colleges). Once you join this course, in that mean time..you can start looking/keep applying for long term internships, jobs, applying to placement agencies...and after this course and 3 years PGWP, you will have enough time to pursue career+ immigration and hopefully will land a good skilled job.

Honestly, I've done quite enough research on this and it's nothing but 'My friend's friend has seen a ghost' kind of thing!

I can go ALL IN on the argument that you cannot find ONE person who has taken this route and got a 3 year PGWP and who happens to be in

direct contact with you

This is an important topic and I would request people who have experienced this or know about this to reply on this and share the valuable feedback. I hear that Lawrence college too is an option for the same. But there is still a lot of ambiguity on this 3 yr permit from Niagara. I have done ISBA ( Information Systems Business Analysis) from George Brown College (GBC) and currently doing my co-op. I am looking forward to this option, this means that I am risking to leave my job to do this Niagara thing. I would appreciate if people can share their views on whether or not we are able to get 3 yr work permit after doing GAS from Niagara.

It works but these days people are given 1.5 years while some are given 3 yrs... It's beta to take another one year program in a cheap school to be sure of 3 yrs work permit...

Thanks for your answer, that was a valuable feedback. Any cheap colleges that you know off? I have done Business Analysis in IT. And I also want to know that as of now I am in my coop, assume that I get an permanent offer from the same place where am doing coop right now. Should I accept it? As my work permit is only for an year. If the company wants me can my work permit be extended? Will I be able to get PR through this route?

currently a student at NC and i know people who have got the 3 year WP after GAS. but new rules coming out in Jan. so not sure how itl turn out then,

only on one condition you will get 3 yr PGWP if your both back to back PG course of having 1 Year each (3 semester) not of 2 Semesters, because according to Canadian standard , full time 1 year study consist of 3 semester.

so 1 yr (3 semester ) + 1 yr (3 semester) will give you 3 yr PGWP.

but for instance if any of the course among back to back is 1 yr (2 semester) 90% chances are you will not get 3 yr PGWP.

rest depends on VO.

there is no difference between 2 Year Masters and 2 Years diploma course.. suppose someone has done 2 years Masters he/she will not gonna get special treat when comes to PGWP..

lots of factors to considered when issuing PGWP like.

1. Total credits earned in course,, does not matter its Masters/ 2 Year Diploma
2. total contact hours the applicants gained.. (VO will check this with official Transcripts provided by the college)
3. your final grades and attendance credentials

i am telling you all these from Canadian education standard point of view.

if you are interested for 2 one year back to back diplomas// certificate programs , cross check the following:

1. total no. of Semester in single year, if its 3 semester then no problem.
2. total Diploma/ certificate credits.
3. contact hours per week.

I came in JANUARY 2014 and took MASTERS IN INFORMATION SYSTEMS SECURITY MANAGEMENT in Concordia University College of Alberta and my STUDY PERMIT is valid till April 2016 , now i have taken 12 courses and got 36 CREDITS. but there is an issue with research work so i am planning to take diploma instead of MASTERS that is an 18 credits course(out of 36) which will end in December 2014

Now i am taking Certificate/Credit course of 8 months of Network Technician in SAIT. that is a 33 Credit course which begins in (April 2015 - December 2015)

Total Credits 36 (Diploma + 18 extra) + 33 credits(Sait certificate) = 69 credits

5 semesters in total ( 3 in diploma and 2 in certificate)

Questions

1. What are the chances of getting 3 years post grad work permit?

2. Can i work full time in between two courses (jan 2015 - april 2015)?

3. Do i have to apply for new study permit when i take up a new course?

Sorry to bother u. There is no information about your point from CIC. At least, 2 years course is min requirement in order to get 3 years post graduation work permit no matter what it is PG or diploma.

what if the program duration is 16 months (4 semesters straight), no vacations. just 16 months of study.

will it result to 3 year PGWP?
