Wanting to extend my Boyfriend's stay in Canada

My Boyfriend from the UK is currently visiting me in Canada, he is allowed to stay here for 6 months, he is halfway through his stay and he is wanting to extend his stay for longer than 6 months, so that we can become a common law couple and further our relationship.

We have a few questions we would like answered to help us out.

1. How early is too early to apply for his visitor's extension? We read that applying too early can make it so that your application is denied.

2. What happens if he applies for his visitor's extension and while waiting for a reply, his six months expires?

3. Does he need to do anything else other than fill out an application to extend his stay? (i.e language test, medical exam etc.)

4. How much money does he need to extend his stay? Currently he is staying with my parents and I, we are currently taking care of him.

5. Is trying to become a Common Law couple a good enough reason to extend his stay?

6. My Boyfriend isn't originally from the UK, he is Latvian from birth and lived in the Republic of Ireland for 11 years, and then 3 years in Northern Ireland (UK), he finished Secondary School there, but when putting in his information in the Canadian Government website it says he requires a Language test for certain things like Temporary Residency, is there a way to get around the language test as he speaks fluent English. If not, where does he take this test?

If you have any other advice in regards to extending my Boyfriend's stay, or any other important information I may have missed or looked over when asking my questions, please feel free to tell me about it, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you to anyone who helps.

Does your bf hold a UK passport?

1. 30 days before visa expires

2.You keep waiting until you hear and until you hear he can stay. He can't leave Canada during this whole process and shouldn't leave util he gets his work permit after filing for inland common law sponsorship. After that he could eave for a short vacation if necessary.

3. No just apply for visitor extension.

4. Tough one. He can't work at the moment so he can't have a large change in his account. You can submit your savings and a letter from your parents offering free accommodation if that is the case. Given the goal is common law you supporting him is less of an issue. He should submit his own savings information as well.

5. You should say that he wants to stay in order to meet 12 month to become common law. In general, that is usually accepted.

6. Does he have UK passport as well? He doesn't need a language test at the moment. Also not needed for common law sponsorship.

2. He will have legal Implied Status while waiting for a decision on the extension app.

4. Have your parents write a letter of support. If you are working, show your recent payslips and give a letter of support as well.

Your boyfriend should look into IEC. If he is the right age and qualifies, he could apply. You haven't said if he is actually a British citizen or not; if he is, he could apply under both nationalities. It is super competitive and there likely won't be any more invitations issued for the current pools but they should open up again in 3-4 months.

Note that it's important to be clear about nationality when posting, as it can really affect the answers you will receive. Saying he is from the UK does imply British citizenship.
