So, i am 26 yr. old student currently in the last year of my VFX degree with just one more semester to go. I have live in Canada for a little bit more than 3 years on a student permit, but couldn't finish my degree due to personal reasons and had to come back to India. Anyhow, I want to go there again after finishing my degree and want to get a job there and get a Permanent Residency. I would appreciate some suggestions about what qualifications and skills I need under my belt to be a great candidate to get the visa. Moreover, please advise me on what the best route would be to get a work permit that will lead to PR?

To qualify for a work permit, you need to start by finding an employer in Canada who is willing to hire you.

In terms of immigrating to Canada and becoming a PR, one of the most popular programs is Express Entry. This is a points-based system where those with the most points are selected for PR. You can read more about this program here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/works.html

Thanks for the quick response Scylla. I believe currently I don't have enough qualifications to impress an employer to take me as an employee. I am currently doing my course in VFX and I will finish this course next year in may. I was wondering if I could do my higher education in Canada and then apply for a job over there? What is a the best path to PR say if I choose to do my masters in Canada? Do I get a work permit soon after I finish my course? How long do I have to work on this work permit before I could apply for PR? I don't want to come to Canada to this time without a concrete plan. It would be really grateful if someone could answer the above mentioned questions, as it will help me make a solid plan to further my career. Thanks in advance

If you decide to do a 2-years Master's degree, you will have your Post Graduate Work Permit up to 3 years right after your graduation. Then you will need to accumulate your work experience under that work permit until you get enough points to apply for PR under, for example, the Express Entry program. How many years of work do you need to have enough points? Well, that depends on a lot of different factors such as your age, your education, your work exp, any family in Canada, IELTS, any french, etc...

Thanks for the quick reply. I was told by someone that I can take a one year diploma and still get work permit and then Permanent Residency. I am not sure if Canada offers 1 year masters degree like the UK but if I was to do a 1 year diploma then can I go down this path and secure a work permit? Thanks in advance.

A one year diploma is a bad plan with low chances of being able to get PR afterwards. If your aim is PR, you need to take a 2 year program so that you qualify for a 3 year PGWP and have a higher chance at PR
