Hi Everyone,

I just have a quick question, I want to travel to US on May 9th, 2013 and coming back on may 19th but my work permit and visa is expiring on junbe 15, 2013. I haven't apply for work permit extention as i'm waiting for my file Number (applied under CEC) so i can apply for Bridging open work permit. But my lawyer suggested that i shouldn't go as i haven't apply for anything that immigration office might ask lot of questions and stuff.. what should i do as i've already booked my ticket?????

Travel. You have a valid work permit & visa.

Your lawyer is an egg!

Agreed. Sounds like you still have valid documents so it shouldn't be a problem at all.

I would say = go, but be prepared. It is more than likely you will be questioned and refused entry for a stupid reason (depending on what power trip border control person you get), but if you take documentation to prove on your return to Canada that you can maintain yourself and your intent in Canada is long term, then this could help the process. Take things like your AOR or copy of your CEC application, bank statements, lease documents, job offer, NOA etc

When is your AOR due? - any chance of putting in your application for BOWP before you go - this would strengthen your claim.

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/short-trip-to-the-states-while-cec-in-progress-pgwp-holder-expires-may-2013-t140056.0.html

I asked the same thing couple weeks ago. Went down to the states for couple days and the only question the border officer asked was "what is your plan re your soon expiring work permit".

Told him I am going to file BOWP app in couple days. Official comment from the officer - "you should do this 30 days before your current permit expires, its stated on your permit so please be careful next time" and he just let me go.

Though I had a pile of docs prepared in my car, e.g. my CEC related docs, correspondence with CIC, BOWP OB# 485, bank statement(s), business card, recent paystubs, mortgage docs, etc

***knowledge from other seniors - VISA is not required for re-entry from the states if you are travelling via highway/sea means***

Avoid talking much at the border....just tell him WE ARE WORKING ON IT
