Hi, my husband applied for refugee claim in 2023. His case is rejected after hearing and his appeal in RPD also got rejected. Now he wants to leave Canada voluntarily. What is the process and how long will it take. He got financial support and just one month before he got mail that he has big amount as overpayment dues.
Will he get clearance from cbsa without paying this?

1- I am unsure if he will be cleared to travel with a balance due
2- to leave voluntarily he needs to contact CBSA and maybe IRCC to arrange to have his passport given back to him so he can travel- this normally happens at the airport when he is departing, he'd need to book a ticket etc.
3- he should call the govt entity (service canada or whoever sent the letter) regarding overpayment dues to resolve it if its a mistake

Renew the passport and get new one. Buy ticket and fly. There is no exist stamp in canada. Leaving is simple.

If you do it this way make sure to inform IRCC, CBSA, CRA, etc. that you have left Canada once you are outside of Canada. If you receive any form of welfare also very important to inform the welfare office that you have left Canada. You or your dependents may want to attempt to enter Canada in the future so best to make the cleanest break possible.
