I had previously sponsored a spouse recieved his PR Card in June 2006. Things did'nt work out between us, and we divorced. He left Canda immediately. I remarried in July 2007. My previous sponsorship undertaking was over in June 2009. I am currently living with my husband in Lebanon. We have a baby girl who was born in Canada. I sent a sponsorship application on July 2009 and waiting patiently with my husband in Lebanon for him to recieve his Visa. My whole family is in Canada, so I really can't wait to see them. Does anyone know how long it might take or if I will have any problems??

Hey there, and welcome to the forum, I guess your application is in Damscus, right? Based on my experience and other people experience, Damscus is usually fair and fast, when did you get an AOR ? You should not have problem if your application is full and with lot of evidences.
Good luck

Hello, I sent my application to Mississauga, and it will later be sent to Beirut, because they no longer send to Damascus. I was wondering what AOR stands for?? I have not heard anything at all from Mississauga yet. Does anyone know if the longer it takes to hear anything if it is better or if I should be worried. Again I sent the application on July 3rd, 2009....Thankyou for your help

Ok I see, well Beirut office is still new in processing sponsorship application, I don't have any info about it, but by now, you were to have received a sponsorship approval letter from Mississauga, and later on when the application is sent to Beirut, they will send you an AOR" Acknowlegedment of Receiving" of something like this, witch means that they have received your file, and that they have started working on it and they will give you as well a "B number" witch will be your application number in wich you will be able to check your application process online on e-cas.

I just checked my application status on CIC.GC.CA using my receipt number, and it said that they receieved my application on August 24, 2009 and started processing it on September 18th,2009. And then it says we sent you a letter with the decision on Sept.18th,2009. Does this mean that they have approved or refused?? That they have come to a decsion?? And from what you know do you think the timing seems positive or negative?? thanx for your help

the letter they sent you probably just says you have been approved as a sponsor. most people have no problem getting approved as sponsors. Your file will now be sent to beirut and they'll evaluate your relationship there.

Good luck and ahlan wa sahlan !

That is usually an approval of the sponsorship :)
No guarantees though, not until you receive the letter. Or you could call CIC Call Center and you should be able to find out about the status right away.

Okay, so after the letter is sent to me, they send the application to Beirut?? I have heard that once the application is accepted from Canada, its a 95% chance they will accept it from here... and if refused from there, vise versa. So, what happens now?? And what does being approved as a sponsor mean?? and what happens next??Thank you

Hey Selena , you sure have sponsored your other husband to Canada? because you seems don't know much about the procedure...anyway, being approved in Mississauga as Sponsor doesn't mean at all that it is 95% guarenty that your application for PR will be approved, each one stand alone. and if not approved for sponsor in Mississauga, means that your application won't be approved at all.
Approved as Sponsor stand for that Mississauga has review your part of the application, your background check, income...everything , and approved that you fulfill the requirement of a sponsor. Now when they forward the application to the local office, there they will review your husband part of the application as well as the shared part about your relation, marriage, proof his background check..all, and in the end they came up with a desicion.
Good luck

Rorita, I see on your signature that you began your sponsorship process in February of 2008 and the passport request wasn't made until June of 2009. When you would call or write to ask what's going on with your application, what explaination would they give you? Did they ever explain why it took so long when you see that others who are being processed in the same Visa office finish much more quicker?

I have tried everything now and there's nothing. No change no new news no nothing. I'm afraid to send in any more case specific enquiry asking about where we are on the case because I don't want to disrupt the process. The last time I sent in a case specific enquiry was on August 18, but I got no response. I'm afraid to get in contact with anyone because I don't want to make the immigration officers angry and slow down the case.

Rorita, when your case was in process, did you call or write to your MP regarding your case? I wrote to my MP, but have heard nothing. Do you have any recomendations on what I can do or what else I should be doing?

What frustrates me is that sponsorship is supposed to be the quickest application to reuinte couples/families . . . what fast when it takes over a year. Is there any compassion??? Don't they understand how difficult it is to be apart from your loved one(s)???

Sorry for the rant, but this is the only place where I can get some comfort.

:(

Selena, why did your first sponsorship case take from 2004 until 2006 to finish? Sorry if this is too personal, but I'm just trying to understand why my case has been in process for a year now and I'm trying to figure out how much longer my husband and I are going to have to wait. It better not be much longer because my husband just redone his medicals and we DO NOT want them to go expired again. My husband chose to redo them now so as to save time.

When a sponsorship case takes this long it really has an affect on your relationship. My husband and I love each other so much, we'd die for each other and it's difficult to be apart for this long.

Sadgirl, well thats what happened with me. I was married in 2004 and thats when Sponsored my exhusband and they refused my application.I had to hire a lawyer, and thats why it took 2 years and we ended up divorcing because we were apart from eachother for so long. So this time I am staying with my husband, and we have a little girl together and I dont plan on going back to Canada until my husband receives his visa because I would rather be with him.

Hey there, to reply to your question, my application took that long because my file was lost or forgotten on a immigration officer table for 6 month. I first filed the applcation while I was on a visit visa in the USA, it started in buffalo, then buffalo order the application should go to Damscus office because I was in the end of my visitor visa, so instead of my file reach Damscus in August 2008, it arrived January 2009...because someone lost it, forgot to send it...we don't know. I start inquiry after 6 month of the date of the AOR I got from Buffalo, I started emailing Damscus office, without any reply from them, which later on was clear...they didn't have my file in order to reply to me. in Damscus my file was approved after 4 month of the AOR, wich is the normal time. About inquirying or not, well I guess after 6 month of an AOR you can inquire, but not to the limit that they will be disturb...after all even if we don't like it, our life is in their hand. About using the PM, we were in the procedure to contact him when I got the Passport request letter. I know it is frustrating being apart from our husband , I have been away for 9 month, it is painful , and yes it can and will effect the relation, so you must watch out to this part of the procedure, I have been there...
Good luck
