Waiting on OWP-Told to withdraw my Visitor Extension App

Hello. I have my 2nd visitor extension application into Immigration. I also applied (I am an American.) for an OWP along with my PR common law sponsorship paperwork (My common law is a Canadian citizen.) This week is month 3 I am waiting to hear from my OWP.
I asked my MP's office here in Canada if they could call and check on the status of my OWP. I was told that I need to withdraw my visitor extension since I have applied for an OWP. They said I can't have both at the same time. Is this a good idea???????? What if I am denied my OWP??? Then my status has run out...
Is withdrawing a good thing? This is going to give me an ulcer, I'm afraid.

There is no need to withdraw your visitor extension. Yes - you can certainly have both at the same time.

MPs are not immigration experts and it's generally not a good idea to look to them for advice on immigration matters.

Your OWP processing times are perfectly normal as of now. Most people are approved at the four month mark.

I would leave everything as is - it's all fine.

Okay. Thank you. The MP's office talked with CIC and that is where they received this information. It wasn't their own idea, but I am afraid to withdraw my app just in case my OWP isn't approved for some reason. I assumed the Visitor Extension department and the OWP/PR department are two separate areas of immigration.

Assuming the MP spoke to the CIC help desk, they are useless for all but the most basic questions. Also, entirely possible your MP misunderstood what was said.

Tons of people here have applied to extend their visitor status as insurance while also submitting an inland/OWP application. There are absolutely no issues with doing so and it's the smart thing to do.

Thank you. I get exhausted from worrying. Last year, when I was applying for my first visitor extension (while waiting for time to pass so we could be common law (1 year together) I lost 10 pounds. I would rather be able to be calm. Thank you so much. I appreciate your time.
