Waiting for Visa extension/Wanting to work ASAP and have an LMO offer...

Hello all,

I need some help with my situation ASAP...

I came to Canada from Chile with a working holiday Visa (open Visa for one year) my Visa got expired last November 31st. I submitted an application for a visitor Visa to extend my stay on November 21st and still haven't received an answer.

There is an opportunity for me to start working with a company that's willing to give me an LMO but I don't know if I can apply before having the extension approved? also, I don't see any form to apply for a work permit inside Canada, is that a possibility or do I have to leave the country in order to get a new work permit?

So, I guess my two questions are:

1) Can I apply for a work permit while I am waiting for my Visa to get issued?

2) Do I have to leave Canada to receive a work permit?

1. As a visitor you would have to wait for the approved LMO and then "flagpole" at border office to obtain the work permit. You can't apply in Canada to Vegreville.

Can I apply inside Canada and just received the Visa at a POE? or do I have to apply outside and wait the 2 or 3 months that it takes to be approved outside Canada?

When you have the approved LMO and you DON"T require a medical, you go to the nearest US/Canada border crossing that has Immigration services. You go to the US side tell them it is your intention to return to Canada to get a work permit. They will give you an administrative refusal( No effect on future entries) then you return to the Canadian side and get your work permit.

Hi. Have you already been at the POE and get your WP? I ask because I have same situation and still wait for answer from CIC about my "Visitor's status" and I have LMO and Job Offer and would like to go to the POE and to the flagpole. Did you pay for restoration?
