I think you should go again to the Service Canada branch and be a little tough on them. My colleague also faced same thing and did not got until and unless she created a scene. Otherwise go to another branch and start the process again, don't tell them that you already have one on process. Which province is it?

No worries, let them know that you are suffering because of them and if possible cancel that and start a new one and give it to you instantly if possible. Ask them the reason of delay

In the meantime, if you need to start work and do not yet have your SIN, you may be able to provide your employer with a letter from Service Canada confirming that you have applied for a SIN and are awaiting issuance. This letter can be requested by contacting Service Canada by phone or in person. Your employer can use this letter to verify your identity and employment eligibility until your SIN is issued.

Hi
Jehe, after how much time you got your SIN. Did you apply again? I'm also facing same issue.... it's more than 45 days my SIN has not yet come. I called customer care 3, 4 times but they are saying we have backlog.

This was so long ago I do not remember, but you can walk into a service Canada and get one on the spo.
good luck
