Landed on 29th July!

Do we have any link to check the PR card status other than the usual ECAS link?

Could anyone help with the next step of activities to be carried out after landing?
In addition to my above post, if you are not in Canada, look at this list of items that CIC recommends:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/before-move.asp

Congratulations! Only link to check is via ECAS.

Things you will need to do are:
1. Update SIN number
2. Update health insurance
3. Provide SIN number to employer.

CRA etc., are automatically notified by Service Canada about change in status.
Will I be able to get the OHIP now? I believe it would take another 3 months before I apply. Is it not?

Yep, the wait for OHIP coverage to start is 3 months, and you can apply anytime before that to inform Service Ontario that you are a PR.

Ecas seems to be a very unreliable source. We had landed on 20th March, 2014 and received PR CARDS couple of days back but as of today their is no additional window showing the status of PR Cards. Have no clue at all for this. I think there must be many candidates facing same.

Hi ukulele,

I landed on 12th, let me know if you see that extra window on ECAS. Mine hasn't change yet too.

Sandrinho
Ok, if my ECAS window appears I will let you know, some applicants don't see it at all and still get their PR cards, I check mine every day, please let me know if you see yours appear earlier than me.

Where did you land by the way?

I got my OHIP updated the next day after I landed, you are eligible for it if you have had a card before or can prove that you have lived in Ontario 3 or more months prior to landing.

3 months period ONLY applies to those who came to Canada for the first time and landed at the airport or wherever...

Have you been living in Ontario for 3 months before landing? Or was your landing your initial arrival to Canada? Read my post above...

The 3 month wait period is mandatory wait for any new resident. That is irrespective of whether one lived in Canada before or not. Check the document that was given to you. You will see a date, maybe in your case October 12 from when OHIP starts. In my case I had OHIP before which became inactive the date I landed and it starts again on October 10th.

this is true....when I first joined my job on PGWP, Service Ontario said that although I had lived in Canada for 2 years still I needed to wait three months because it is three months from the time you become eligible to apply for OHIP....

after my PR, I got conflicting answers as to when I can go and get the coverage changed....I went after 3 months of my PR (due to the three month period) and was given coverage right away.....meanwhile I had the coverage still going on as per the OHIP lady on the basis of my work permit....

Even my case is similar and I am in Canada for the past 2 years and my OHIP expires in a month, I am yet to do the landing, so is it better that I renew the OHIP and go for landing or first landing and than do I get the new OHIP card immediately or should wait for 3 months again.

I didn't file a claim yet so can't comment on the three month wait period. I was told by the lady that you should get some other medical coverage for emergencies as I don't have OHIP during this time.

Congrats Buddy. Is the separate status appearing on main page of ECAS after logging in or under "Complete" section.

I landed on July 15th , so expecting to see similar changes on ECAS soon.:)

So why the hell did they issue it to me and my husband? And no, coverage started right away, I just checked my paper. The lady was young and I am not sure she knew the procedure... Am I gonna get in trouble because of her now?

as per this link:

http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/publications/ohip/ohip_eligibility.aspx

I am eligible right away, my previous card was still valid based on my work permit for 1 month, I don't know if that played and important role or not, but now I am PARANOID AS HELL that I will get in trouble for using OHIP before I was supposed to... But then again it wasn't my fault, it was that lady's fault... I hate ppl who don't know their job...
